Holy Cow, I,m having sticker shock (no pun intended) .My 1996 r850r has 71,000 miles on it and runs flawlessly. This summer I,m leaving New York for San Diego with a planned stop in Sedona, Arizona. I have the original shocks on the bike and although I feel all is well I,m sure they should be replaced. No handling issues IMO, almost always ride solo. I can only imagine that a set of new shocks would make a world of difference.....
Why are motorcycle shocks so damn expensive ? Not just BMW shocks, all of them. The word obscene comes to mind. I understand our rides need to be safe, no arguement there...two wheels require that nothing can be overlooked. That said, appx. $1200.00 for two shocks seems crazy. I feel like there is a sign in the window that say,s "We give you a great deal and screw the next guy". Problem is...I,m the next guy! Any Thoughts!

Re: New Shocks R850R
You have to spread the development costs over the life of the product. I'm sure sales volumes are pretty low. So, they have to charge a lot. It sucks.
Can you just get some stock one's from BMW for less?

Re: New Shocks R850R
I,too, have an R850R, 1998 vintage, which still has the original shocks.
I have heard of a set of shocks, front and rear, for an R1100S, 2001 or 2002, new and unused, which may be for sale.
Anyone know if they'd fit straight in?
regards,CrazyCam
