HID installation > where to put the ballast?

Post by tweetyoost »

Hello

I'm planning to buy me a Xenon kit (real xenon with ballast)

but where to put the ballast?

does someone has a picture of how much space there is under the gas tank? (I have a ABS rockster 04')

And do I have to drill holes in the lamp house? (I would prefer an installation with as less as possible modifications on the orginal rockster) no holes,no drilling

Thanks!

If the housing is plastic, you might end up dealing with melted headlamp housing.

Why do you feel the need to go with "real HID" on a motorcycle? Kinda like trying to install a sub base speaker on your bike. Some things just are not workable.

I have installed HIDs on my Rockster about 2 years ago.
Its great.
The temperature of the bulb isnt higher than the halogen ones, so it works out fine.

I've drilled 2 small holes with grommets in the housing of the light in the back (the cap that screws on, with the wires on it).
I dont have pictures, but I've rigged it, so that in case it goes out on a trip, I can just go back to a standard bulb without any tools/modifications other than disconnecting a few wires, and connecting them to other wires of the same connector type.
The ballast resides in the frame cavity, in the steering head. I've just zip tied it there, and it works fine.
