Problem starting

Post by fhammond »

Hi all,

I have a problem on my R12R where it often doesn’t want to start. I turn the key and see more than just the ABS error that my dealer said is normal. Sometimes it’s the oil light, sometimes it’s the triangle icon with the exclamation point. If I turn the key to the off position, then turn it back on, the error goes away and the bike starts just fine.

The dealer didn’t find anything wrong at the 600 mile service but said to bring it back in if the problem continues.

Has anyone else had the same problem? Doesn’t seem to be a big deal; just annoying.

Thanks
Fergus

Sorry about your problem. I've no such problem myself. Always starts just fine. I hope this responce doesn't jinx me.

Do you happen to have the plastic key in you wallet? That has messed with starting GS bikes in the past with lots of strange fault indications. Problem is that the computer is seeing both keys and gets upset.

Other problem might be the antenna ring for the key. A number of the GS people have had starting problems with a bad antenna ring causing the problem.
