Big bike

Post by OU812 »

I got my used LT. It has an issue with the grips splitting. The seller had bought new non-heated grips. I was wondering if anyone has replaced just the grip, and not the warming elements?

I swapped the grips out on my Rockster. I delicately, w/ a razor blade sliced the old grips off. If you start the cut, or at the rip in your case, slowly peel off the grip from the heater element. Mine only had a couple of small spots where glue was used.

Ended up w/ this...

What is the diameter of the grips? I can do this if I have the new grips that fit. I have a few oil filters left from my 04R1150R, are they the same for the 02LT?
Tks BigPapa!

Well, I got the clutch side grip off and replaced it with the non heated cover. It is a bit short. i will leave the throttle side as is, since I don't want crap getting into the cable.

Hey Steve. Congrats on the new RT. But, 1400 miles and the grips have split like that? Makes you wonder why? You ought to be able to get replacements from Chicago BMW and put them on yourself. I think, as BP said, getting them off is most of the hassle.

After riding it for 200+ miles, I can say, "it ain't no R!" 845lbs of sled. But it will eat up the interstate. Like WCBMW said: LT, Light Truck.

Something to discuss at the Arkansas Bash: OU812's size issues.
Roadster's too small. Grips too short. Hmmmm?
