What do you think about Hyundai?

Post by iowabeakster »

I have loved my last three Toyotas. Great cars. But Hyundai's attempt at out "Toyotaing" Toyota really has my attention.

Who drives one? What do you think?

Well, they were crap when they first came out. But they have improved significantly over the years. My wife drives a 2005 Sonata and is very happy with it. No problems so far.

Forgot to mention. I think the quality of the metal is not quite up to par. In a few spots that got dinged (on the hood up front) down to the metal it started rusting right away. Most cars now a days are pretty corrosion resistant. So looks like they still have some work to do there.

I drove a Hyundai Azera for about 4,000 miles (I work for a leading rental car company, and they let me drive it for a while.) Several of my colleagues also drove a Hyundai Azera. This car is comparable to a Toyota Camry or a Honda Accord.

The consensus -- this is a GREAT CAR!

The fit and finish was excellent. The six cylinder engine was fantastic, as was the transmission (it is an automatic with a Tiptronic-type manual shift feature). It is very luxurious with heated leather seats with memory feature, and a premium sound system. The interior is first class. The only real issue I had is that the suspension is somewhat soft.

If I were spending my own money, I would buy this car, and I really encourage you to check out the Hyundai Azera. I have no affiliation with them -- I was just impressed by the car, and so were other people here.

Background:

I have worked both for toyota and hyundai

Toyota an exceptional value, high resale value, and the cars do not break down.

On to hyundai. there new sonata is top notch. i have seen their facility, and there electroplating process, they actually dip the entire frame of the car and electrically charge the primer. it is an awesome process to witness.

a top of the line sonata will run you about 25, vs a toyota top of the line, v6 and all of that about 27.5.

warranty is a no brainer, 10 year/100,000 mile warranty vs the toyota is 3/36!

i have seen some 2001 sonata come in with 98,000 miles and receive a new transmission, no questions asked, the owner beat it all to crap.

me personally if i were in the market for other than BMW, it would be the Hyundai Azera, fully loaded, and i mean loaded for 33! I have driven both of the hyundais i mentioned, and they are great cars.

my 2 cents

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say -- I would not hesitate to buy a fully loaded Azera. I forgot to mention the 10 year warranty because I did not actually own the one I was driving, but it is a great feature.

I am surprised that I do not see more people driving an Azera.

My wife also really liked the car, and we were sorry to have to give it back.

I've been tainted by the Hyundai of the 1980's, but they've changed a lot since then. If I were to buy another vehicle right now, I would be looking at a large gas-guzzling American SUV  , so Hyundai doesn't have anything to offer me.

Hyundais have definitely improved in quality, style, and general appeal. While I wouldn't expect them to be as durable over the long run as a Toyota, they will probably last 10 years with little trouble. A couple mechanic friends have said that they would trust Hyundais.

I think the Sonata is their best overall model from a competitive standpoint, but the Azera, Sante Fe, and Elantra seem to be holding their own in their respective segments.

I have one of those, too. We have an '03 GMC Yukon XL. We have about 60,000 miles on it, and I am satisfied with it. For that type of vehicle, I would recommend one of these.

My neighbor has 2 Hyundai SUV's. They swear by them.

We all remember those 1980's buckets. But, that was a long time ago.
