Twin Turd Mobiles....

Post by Harry »

This is a brief and admittedly petty rant:

On my way to pick-up dinner tonight we were having a pleasant conversation in my Olds with the windows rolled down. We were stopped at a light at the time.

All of a sudden two LOUDER THAN H&LL Harleys with straight pipes pulled up behind us.

One of the guys had his high beam on or his headlight was aimed too high.

Either way, I was temporarily blinded when I looked into my rear view. And the bike was so big that the guy almost dropped it when he stopped.

They then decided to chat. So they began yelling in order to hear themselves over the sound of their Twin Turd Mobiles.

Once we got moving we passed under a bridge which made the already extremely loud bikes generate a nearly deafening echo!

All the while I was wondering why in the h&ll loud arse Harleys are supposed to be so cool??

And these guys had to be in their fifties. Not really old, but old enough that you'd expect them to take the people around them into consideration.

Grown men on ridiculously loud motorcycles.... not cool.

Loud exhausts save lives...didn't you know that..

They were probably deaf..and the bikes may have sounded quiet to them.. :D

I have done a local Toy-for-Tots motorcycle run a few times (usually, I just drop off a check). The route here goes through a tunnel. Try riding through a tunnel with dozens of open-pipe HDs! Talk about loud! :x

That's a great billboard. Kudos to BMW's marketing.

I have a stage 1 kit on my Dyna. It's not fully open, so it's tolerably loud. It's got (for me) the right amount of bark and volume without being annoying. I hate open pipes myself. It serves for people to vote for stricter laws.

I also have a Yoshimura exhaust setup on my SV650. It's not quite as loud as my Dyna, but it's significantly louder than my Roadster. IMO, 90 degree v-twins sound the best. The best sounding motorcycle to me is a Honda RC51 with a pair of Two Brothers pipes. Oh my!

We've gotta a place here in Maryland called "Sugar Loaf Mountain". Not much of a mountain really. More like a hill. The overlooks are impressive though.

I used to ride my old K75 or my new R up to the overlooks and have a seat on the rocks. An enjoyable ritual and probably as close as I'll ever get to real meditation...

But no more. Because of the steady flow of deafening Turd Mobiles (scaring children and wildlife alike) ALL motorcycles have now been banned from the mountain..('')

*sigh* D-mn Turd Mobiles...

"Loud pipes do save lives." ....And so do magenta jackets. And also anti-lock brakes, helmets, and those safety flags that resemble golf flagsticks. It's OBVIOUS that it's not about "Rolling Thunder". It's about safety, right? Riiiiight....
...Added bonus: If your Safety Pipes are loud, women will think your penis is larger.
