Yorkshire Moors 'between the showers'

Post by TonyO »

This summer has not been too kind to us in the UK. It's rained most days since mid June so between the showers today I went for a ride across my local moors. I needed to check the bike out before going to Scotland next week for our annual bike trip with some of the guys I work with.
Here are some pics of what the roads and scenery are like.

We have outside toilets over here but still I think this is a bit much.
Not very private and a bit nippy in the winter

There aren't many trees up here and those that survive tend to lean alot!!

Over in the distance is our local Helmsley 'TT' but that ride is for another day when I get back.

Lovely, lovely photos Tony. Thank you. I've spent the last ten minutes admiring them and still can't recognise half a dozen of them! You were lucky with the weather! I like the diversity of interest which you have introduced. You have really captured the delights of the area.

Did I by any chance see you today (Sat) on the back road between Ampleforth and Helmsley? I think it unlikely bearing in ,mind where you took the photos but it was an 1150R... Chris; Stan....?

Ride safely,

Rog

PS Where was the lovely bridge (just after the bridge showing the debris?)

Great roads. Great photos. Great job. Looks like a few of us all over the world are being 'rained in' at the moment. I've got to get out! That just looks so good.

Wasn't me I was mainly in the Castleton, Westerdale, Kildale area.

The village is Westerdale. If you take the Hutton-le-hole to Castleton road just after Blakey ridge take the left turn to Westerdale/Commondale. Coming out of Westerdale there is the ford and the bridge is to the right.

Very cool church pictures too. I'm not sure how I got churches as my "signature photo"for ride reports except that they are usually the oldest buildings where I live so I like to photograph them. But they aren't anything like your photos here. Beautiful. I love the old architecture.

Thanks for posting these. Makes me want to get over there - but only if I have a motorcycle to explore some of these spots. Keep them coming, please.

Hi Tony - great photos of North Yorkshire, showing our typical weather! I'm in South Yorkshire, fortunately not where we had the worst flooding on June 25th :o :o
Can you tell me which village had that wonderful display of outside loos?
Thanks

Thanks for all the comments I'll try and post some more pics of my local area now I'm back from my trip to Scotland.

Nippness
The house is just after crossing over the railway bridge heading south towards Westerdale off the Kildale to Commondale road.
