On Saturday morning I headed into Knoxville to hook up with Wayne (R1200RT) and Doug (R1200GS) from Asheville. After breakfast at Cracker Barrel, it was off to the Hoot. As you can see, we weren’t the only ones with this idea. Many vendors told us the crowd was down, but there still lots of folks.

The vendor map lists 542 booth sites. Many were in a two story air conditioned building, but many were spread out over several acres outside. Some spots were occupied by more than one vendor, and I think some spots were unsold, so I don’t know how many were actually there. Suffice it to say, you could buy virtually anything you wanted, and Doug did. I think he was suffering from Farkle Fever. Fortunately, he was in a good spot to cure his ills.

You could also test ride a lot of different brands. Interestingly, the BMW demo fleet was there in full force. One of the workers said a Beemer got totaled, but this rumor was not confirmed.
It was hot. Africa hot. But over priced beverages and food were plentiful.
One of the highlights was a demo of Trials riding by Tommi Ahvala. That man can really do things with a motorcycle.

A band of storms moving across Tennessee made the ride home interesting. Conditions varied from sunny and 94 to rain and 64.
All in all, a good short road trip.
