Eye Opening Turn

Post by Catapult »

Over the weekend I dragged the right foot peg while into a tight turn. This was a first for me and it was an eye opener. The R feels so natural on the mountain roads around my home in North Carolina.

I did the same thing a few months ago while riding 2-up (I didn't have the preload adjuster tightened enough, I think) and broke the small nipple off the bottom of the peg. It was a booger to drill and EZ-out the threaded part left in the peg :( (while heating it to soften the Locktite), but the replacement part was only ~$5.00 :)

My toes are usually lower than the 'hero blobs' and the first thing to touch. Usually on a sudden dip in a tight bend or a mini roundabout.

Have not worn the chicken strips off my BT020s yet but managed it on my previous Metzelers Mez 4s.
Getting old I guess.

for the life of me I cant scrub off that last 1/2 - 1/4 inch of chicken strip, and I've never touched a peg. I have a tire trust issue with no reason, my Z6's have never broken loose on me... :? help me overcome this terrible injustice.

Go round a roundabout a few times till they're gone. Then go back when everyones asleep and go the wrong way round to do the other side!
This is what my Z6 rear looked like the day after it was fitted, never dragged a peg tho.

Take a bit of sandpaper to 'em, then impress the guys at the club the following weekend!

I had the foot-peg lowering kit on my R, so scraping pegs seemed a fairly frequent occurrence, even during my city commutes. I pretty much eliminated this by moving my lazy arse a bit and leaning a bit more than the bike during turns. Chicken strips and elephant heads be damned. If I cared about appearances I never would have bought a beemer!

Its not so much about appearances as it is the feeling that there is more exhilaration to be had down around the elephants.

Look at the sidewall of a Metzler tire - their little logo is a little elephant:

The closer you get to wearing down the elephants, the more exhilarating the ride..

I usually touch a foot down from lazy riding position first! But that usually gets the balls of my feet back were they belong for a while!

I never scratched the peg but now that weather is fine and I can ride my R (black of course!) more often, I have decided to go for it for one particular reason: I drive to my office wearing, alas, a suit, and that stupid nipple below the peg is ruining the cuffs of all my pants which get caught in it when I put my foot on the peg!

I've worn my tires right to the edges..but never worn a foot peg.

I have touched and worn the edges of the center stand..mostly when hitting a dip in the road mid corner.

I'd love to do a track day and see if I can wear them.
