This is where I currently work - One of our Parks Depots just south of the City and in between two satellite suburbs. I park in a dirt car park at the side of the depot, and get greeted by dozens of kangaroos each morning when I arrive and afternoon when I leave. The depot is situated next to a 'greenspace' natural bush reserve. The animals aren't actually fenced in.
So what did I see this afternoon? Lots of roos of course.
But then something caught my eye. Can you see what I can see framed by the rear ladder rack bars on my truck?
Warning - Mild adult content coming up! I guess the roos get bored sometimes too - Maybe this is why there are so many of the damn things around!
No rude jokes please. This is a serious fauna study!
I dislike them - Too many around these parts for safe riding sometimes. They are a menace even when they are a lump of roadkill!

I showed you guys last year on my Texas Hill Country ride an area where there were some misplaced kangaroos here. I went by again on my 'flood ride from hell' and they were still there and managed to stay dry above the flood waters. None were quite as busy as the ones you saw, Mick. Not that I purposefully look for that in the animal kingdom.......... just sayin'

Ah yes - The song made famous by Rolf Harris. We have far too many roos in our country now. They are a 'plains' animal, and the removal of scrub for farming means we have increased their habitat a hundred-fold.
Don't believe any gumpf about them being an endangered species.
Our current problem is that they are moving down from the drought affected bush into the suburbs for a feed of grass and a drink. More than one gets hit by a car every day! The Rangers I work with are also doing a lot of rescues for the ones that get 'trapped' in suburbia, either in backyards or swimming pools. They have also disemboweled a few dogs who got too close!
It's nice to see them each day, but not when I'm on the bike!

Interesting point about roos and floods Gypsy. For the education of others, roos are actually quite good swimmers. There is a place down on the coast called 'Pebbly Beach', not far from here (two hour drive). It's basically an isolated camp ground with a small fishing village.
Depending on the match up between time of day and tides, the roos wander out to a small sand spit offshore. They cross a short sand bridge to get there. At dusk, when they want to return to the bush and their 'bed' for the night, if the tide has come in they have to swim home.
The tourists are fascinated when they see roos swimming back through the light surf to get to the beach! I took my kids there when they were little, and they loved it. I don't think they swim by choice, only when necessary.

Of course those photos will firmly convince and remove all doubt that kangaroos run wild down all the main streets of Australia like the world has secretly thought for years previously.
...Can't a roo have any privacy these days..
