Hello Robert :
take a look at this where we discussed this topic recently at length :
http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?t ... ight=tyres
Since then I have bought and scrubbed-in my Conti Road Attacks. My impression after some 250 miles is that they are first class; great stability; high grip and I love the way they allow the R to roll into corners
Good luck

2k miles on the Conti Attacks and ditto what the other guy said. I had facotry installed Dunlops before. I would say I am a 30% better rider with the Conti's. 15% becuase they are that much better, and 15% because they give me the confidence to really push it. I went over the Blue Ridge last weekend dragging pegs and feet the whole way.
On another note. Remove you can, and the tires give your bike a whole new look. They tred pattern is very original. Not bad on the gravel either.
Just make sure you get the OEM tire for the front, I think it is a "C" model.

Pirelli Diablo Stradas on mine ~ 6000 miles and looks like they'll go another 4000 miles. Great handling so far...no surprises. A ridge grows in the center of the front tire after extended highway travel (esp. at high speed) which was recently discussed here, but doesn't seem to be a cause for alarm.

As stated, there will be an abundance of opinion. I know nothing about the new Contis, although I used to run the some old Contis 'back in the day' on my airhead.
Current opinion will probably run to Michelin Pilot Roads, Metzler Z6s, Pirelli Stadas, Avons. I have been happy with the Z6s and Pirelli (currently on my 2nd set). Less so with Avons. No experience with the Pilot Roads but they get high marks for many on this board.
I get nowhere near the mileage some get from any of them. If I can get 6 to 7K out of a tire that gives me confidence in the corners, I am overjoyed!

I really do despair; we have all bought an expensive bike and clearly have the money to run it; and yet we always seem to talk about x thousand miles tyre wear. Who cares? It makes no odds at al if it's 4k or 8k if the 4k pair give me superb performance. One spill will cost many pairs of tyres.
No, I'm afraid it's all about performance and reserves; tyre wear doesn't even register on the radar; sorry if that offends anyone!

I say old chap, I can bloody well be a cheap arse bastige if I want to.No, I'm afraid it's all about performance and reserves; tyre wear doesn't even register on the radar; sorry if that offends anyone!
You are right though. Makes no sense to argue about tire mileage when we spend thousands out the gate. Be that as it may, I personally just don't like changing out the tires every 2 or 3 months. I'd also rather finish the riding season before seeing the metal threads shining through in the middle Kansas somewhere.
Plus I'm a cheap arse bastige. So I have attempted to get the best mileage tires I can find. The Z6s were great tires! They rode wonderfully and wore nice and even...except once in the middle of Kansas I noticed the metal...
Anyway, I have Pilot Roads now and they seem to be developing a strange raised section down the middle, even though they haven't worn down yet.
On Sunday, after traveling through pouring rain for an hour down in south Alabama, I came to one of those small town stop/turn things rather suddenly and those PRs slid like they had snot on them.
My next set will be something different I think. Just for the hell of it.
I had the Z6's, great riding and handling tires with decent mileage about 9K.
But, being in IL, I ride a lot of flat miles. The rear was pretty unsafe at 9K, it stuck to a dry road OK, but wet ...not good.
Since I am in the flatlands, and mileage is an issue, I decided to go with the Metzeler 880 Marathon Radials. The ride is a little stiffer and noisier, it makes the bike a little taller, but they sure stick to the road rain or shine.
Also put them on my wife's V-Star. Huge! Huge! improvement over the stock Bridgestones. They BS's were just plain dangerous tires.

John I. Stephen - not offended at all! I agree with you actually - to a point. I see no need for super sticky track tires for my riding purposes. And I would not buy a high-mileage tire that wouldn't give me confidence pushing it in the curves. The Z6 and Pirelli Strada are a pretty good compromise for me.
That said, my next set is going to be a set of Michelin Powers (not the Pilots!
). My hard charging Duc - riding buddy can get 3 to 4K out of them and usually gets only 2500 or so out of a set! I figure I can get 5 to 6K out of it and he swears it is a great handling tire, wet or dry. I will pay a mileage penalty if they handle like he says!

Just covered 2000kms on a set of Avon Storms (replaced my Azaros after 16000 happy clicks).
The Storms are supposed to be better alround than the Azaros - better mileage, more grip, more confidence etc. So far, so good.
Oh, and pricewise, hugely competitive - NZD450 a pair fitted (that's about the price of a Big Mac to you Yanks and Poms out there).
Agree with comments about grip etc., but being an average rider looking for a good alround performer at a fair price, I'd suggest considering these new Avons.
Happy Easter Riding.

Well, I guess it varies person to person. As I go back to tires like Metzeler Me77 or Conti Twins, all of today's tires are amazingly good. I do look for high mileage tires, not only for the money, but for convenience. I do ride +/- 3000 miles a month when I don't go anywhere, and usually my yearly longer ride can be 6 to 8K done in two weeks. I start with fresh tires and I don't want to loose a day for searching and mounting tires. So my favorite is the high mileage champ, the Metzeler ME880. They never let me down, great for touring, and I even played with them on race tracks with Reg Pridmore's CLASS.
You don't stop riding because you get old - you get old because you stop riding!

Hello chaps,
Many thanks for all your reply’s. Yesterday I paid a visit to the local BMW motors dealer here. He has the Metzeler M6, BT021, etc.. He advised me to take the M6. About the 021 he said that they could be very good tires but still too new to know enough about them.
Thanks again for your advices and wishing you all happy Easter.
