Fuel Filler Cap Leak After Washing

Been trying to find a thread discussing it but couldn't.

Everytime I have my bike washed or parked in a place with lots of dew, I open up my fuel filler cap and water comes out. I also look inside and water even accumulates in the curcular lip just inside the filler cap. I'm afraid some water even goes inside and dilutes my fuel.

What can I do?

I have no answer but I'm glad to see your post. When I wash by bike, I've heard a "draining" sound from the cap. I don't know if this is normal but at first assumed that it was going down a drain and to the ground. But I see no evidence of a purpose-built drain placed around the cap.

I've since worried that I was getting water in the fuel. I hope someone can shed some light on this.

WASH THE BIKE BY HAND AND DONT USE A JET SPRAY OR PRESSUR WASHER you can force water past the filler cap

the drain holes under the gas cap are there to drain excess gas from an over filled tank

By the way, where do those little overflow fuel slots lead to? The ground or the vapor canister?

Rich -the one in the lip of the filler neck leads through a 1/4" hose to the ground behind your right footpeg. A couple other hoses also come out there, one is the battery acid overflow (it's a little smaller tube) and the other (I think) is an air inlet for the canister.

riding in the rain is an easy problem to fix ( DONT DO IT)
other wise fit a tank bag works for me

The only two times my bike's acted up in a missing/poor idle way was after filling with gas after riding in the rain. The first time it happened I was all at a loss, but finally got her going, ran that batch of gas out and that was the end of it. Second time I made my way to the local car parts house and bought a can of Sea Foam. Added enough per the instructions and gave the guy behind the counter the rest because I don't like carrying anything that volitile in my luggage. Anyway the problem went away in less than a mile. I've been thinknig of making a little metal cap to go over the gas filler and seal with a large "O" ring for those time I need to get home through the rain.
