I'm looking for opinions - almost ready to pull a trigger on 2000 R1100R.
Bike I'm looking at has a salvage title, 26K miles.
Damage appears to be minimal - lowsided on the left, scratched head cover and the hard bags. Windscreen is gone. Head cover damage
There is a small dent in the gas tank, but nothing I can't live with. Other then that, visually the bike is in good condition - no scrapes, nothing bent.
Can a lowside tweak the frame on the R1100R?
What do you think - pull the trigger or run away? And how much would you pay?
Fwiw, I bought my 2000 R1100R/26k miles/throttlemeister/heated grips/bmw windshield/soft bag on passenger seat for $4500. I'm thinking low $3k or even high $2k for the one you're looking at...just a guess though.
Looking at your photo of the head, the guard has taken most of the impact, so a clean, and new guard would fix most of your problems there.
If you can see the oil in the sight glass, and guage weather it looks clean, that may tell you it was looked after on the service front.
General look over at the condition will give you some idea on what to expect.
If you do buy it, change all the oils before you ride it anywhere, so then you know it is OK in that part.
You cant change the history of the bike, but you sure can make sure the future is nice and rosie.
Hey, olegbi - also in St. Paul - bought my 1997 R850R in '04 for just under $4K (almost mint, very low miles). I think I would go for it for the right price. Probably not more than $3K, IMO. Think about the $$ you'll have to put into it. You're going to want a new screen, I assume. Are the panniers intact other than the scratches? And how are the tires? Does it have ABS? These bikes are really tough, though. Good luck!
Reyb - sounds like you got a great deal on your '00! Where are you located?

I'm in San Diego. I really like my bike. It's the Centenniel Edition and I just got my TwinMax vacuum gauge and Wurth feeler gauge, so I'll be tinkering with the bike today.
I would want to hear it run. The unknown is always how long it ran without oil circulating correctly if it ran at all. Clatter at start up is normal and can be fixed cheaply or not depending on whether it bothers you. Remember it does have a salvage title. Good luck ! $ 1500 to 2500 is my guess.
I'm with Geo. A worn-down head guard doesn't sound like enough to warrant a salvage cert. Now, if it low-sided 50 yards before plunging into a river....
Hear the engine; if he tries to pass off a rough idle as 'they all do that', or 'just needs a tuneup', ask him if you can have a mechanic check it out. If he says no, pass on it.
As a point of comparison, I paid $5.2k for my 2000 R1100R with <3000 miles less than 2 months ago. Another $800 got me a 2 year extended warranty.
2000 R1100 R with 3480 miles... 3481... 3482... 5003...
My guess is that the tank dent, and saddlebag damage would be enough to total out an older R1100R. The tank on the 1150R costs about $1300, and gobbles up a good deal of an insurance claim.
My R65 had a salvage title, but I bought it from someone I knew and it had been recently serviced by a reputable dealer.

There ain't no education in the second kick of a mule!
In KY and ready to move from 2000R1100R to a R1150R-mine is blue with 25k,throttlemiesters,Nice WS, newer odessy bat,new tires , lowered factory exhaust, all synthetics, and is a very nice clean title bike-I'm the 2nd owner. It is for sale(in the snow) and as a person that builds a couple of wrecked cars each year-built many-I can tell you that with wrecks a good rule of thumb is-there is more damage than you first see-especially if you dont know what the hell you are doing. Best to have an experienced eye involved and THEN the above still frequently applies! I don't have pictures of my bike, but it will look basically new when I take them. If there is any interest out there , let me know.
