It's a small world !!

Post by CycleRob »

Just for kicks I Googled my screen name.
A LOT of things came up.
A big part of it on EZBoard, our old place. There's also another 46 year old CycleRob with prostate cancer debating going to Atlanta Hospital. I also found THIS . Click the thumbnails to look at the pics on the right. It's my stuff, pirated and added to in what looks like German.(Dutch?). I have mixed feelings about that.

Google your own screen name and see what comes up. I'm STILL reading the 4 pages of CycleRob's legacy.

CycleRob,
I'd be flattered in a way. He did give you credit and go to the trouble of translating it into German, quite well, too. I guess he should have contacted you for permission, but you're cool and probably would have given it to him.
Congrats! You've been translated and can feel good about your expertise making its way back to BMW land... ;-)

Yea, a definite compliment to have your bike featured! Congratulations.

BTW: As many of you probably know, Google has this really cool page where you can cut & paste text in several different languages and then translate it:

It's not so much about me or my bike, but the fact that things written years ago end up on the other side of the world in an obscure location used as part of a how-to.outline in a different language. It's only because of a search engine and the internet, that I can find almost all of it (all MY stuff) in seconds.

He did give you a credit to be fair, but I guess that's the internet nailed in one - anything can be taken, manipulated, recycled, translated etc almost instantly.

If you are selling expertise though, it must be a whole different set of problems - protecting 'your stuff' vs expanding your target audience. See Randalls Honda GL1000 site for an example disclaimer:

Uhhhh...I plead guilty CycleRob, your honor, sir. How much is the fine?

I printed and copied & pasted some of your postings for a Maint. Manual to have while wrenching in the garage. This is one place it's hard to beat good old paper!

But I did title them: document name from [email protected], so even on my bookshelf you still get credit!

Seriously though, I think I speak for everyone buy saying: We all appreciate your knowledge and willingness to share! Thank You!

Fee?? It's pro bono = free. I was just surprised at the globe trotting journey it made.

My next UpLoad coming is about a Front-n-Rear Brakes DOT4 purge-n-replace. My bike needs it, being it's the 5 year service. In addition to just the pushout purge-n-replace version, I'll also be removing all 10 caliper pistons, their seals to wipe clean the bores of any slimey goo. The master cylinder piston teardowns (Front & Rear) will also be shown.
This time there will be better pictures, stored on photobucket.com

BTW, my boisterous signature below taken from a TeaBag tab, can apply to any of you - - - if you had beat me to it. If your a CPA, Dentist, Roofer, or an Insurance Adjuster, you need to see the invisible . . . to do the impossible.

Boxer too funny.

Unfortunately I created my name as a uber newbie and did not know that San Jose BMW existed.

Wow, This whole internet/privacy thing is wild. Kind of scarey.

I have heard that you should look at the internet this way....

Anything you say online should be something that you would not worry about if it were on the front page of the newspaper.... or something like that.

Not surprising that when I googled my name I got a lot of motorcycle forums...one from Adventure rider said ....Just-Beeming's sorry profile. I guess I just don't hang out over there.

It is sort of frightening what one can find out about another just by a few simple key strokes on the computer.

I saw on the news that prospective employers are even checking Myspace to see what their job candidates are really all about.

So I guess if an employer googled my name they would wonder if I could keep my eye on the ball or would my mind wander away to some blog and would I forever be asking for time off to ride.

ACCURATE! :smt118
