tardy 12k service

Post by Dr. Strangelove »

The 12,ooo mi service is due, but the dealer is 80 mi away and I cannot get an appt any sooner than 1/27.
The bike has 12,600 miles on it and the oil/filter was changed ~~2500 mi ago. All seems fine.

How much leeway do I have on this service? Can I keep riding and maybe put another 2-300 mi on it prior to the service or should I shut 'er down and wait for the service to be performed?

thanks

Unless you've been doing a lot of track time and thereby revving your engine near redline a LOT, I wouldn't worry about it. One or even two thousand miles beyond your service mileage point won't do any damage.

Thanks

It's been beautiful down here and a ride tomorrow morning is certainly in the cards.

John, given thje above information I would say that 1K to 2K over the service interval will be no big deal. On my "K" bikes I regularly ran 2K to 3K over after changing the engine oil.

There are BMWs out there far, far past due than your's is for service. As long as it has oil in it and it is running fine, you'll be OK.
