I just bought a new R1200R and I want to post an image of it. What publicly accessible web server ( as descibed in the FAQ ) do most of you use?

Flickr...Wait a minute. That didn't answer your question.

I use "flickr", but others use other places. SmugMug is another and Photobucket also works for this.

My internet provider gives me a small amount of 'space' to post my pictures...check with yours and see if they do the same.

Basically, sites such as Photobucket allow you to "park" your photos on their server so that if you need to link to a photo to post it on another site, say this one, you can use the link to their server and the photos will appear. I think that's how it works. At least that's what I use it for. The only reason I use it is because some web sites will not permit posters to upload photos directly from their own machines.

+1 for Smugmug. It is not free, however ($39.95/year). But most, if not all, of the free sites will ask your "viewing public" to sign in just to see your photos and then start spamming them with offers.

Smugmug allows you to post whopping big photos, and your viewers can download those hi rez beauties, as well (free to them) and anyone can order prints. And, for a small fee, they will dump your entire photo collection to DVD. CD to archive all those memories. In short, if you shoot a lot of digital photos, it is one of the best, IMHO. Lots of other features. I'm a big fan, can ya tell?

You can upgrade from the basic, so you can customize the look and feel of your stuff, too.

More thumbs up for Smugmug from me... Great interface and great customer service. No ads, no limit on the size of the images you upload and well worth the price.

I've had good luck with onfinite.com

They give you 10 meg of space for free and you can buy more if you need it. They will also let you edit big photos down to postable size and help preserve your 10 meg space.

This came through onfinite.
