Panel lights

Post by Beemer1150 »

Does anyone have any experience of changing the instrument panel light bulbs?

The one illuminating the higher end of the rev counter is out - not so much of a problem at the moment here in the UK winter, but I'd like to fix it anyway!

Basically you must remove the back cover to the gauges and the lights will then be accesible. The bulbs in question are special and therefore hard and expensive to obtain outside the dealer network.

However, one might find a suitable replacement, same mounting and wattage. I do agree with you, nothing to loose any sleep over it.....take your time and good luck. 8) 8)

Thanks Boxermania, I'm near my dealer this weekend so I might try to pick up an (expensive) bulb so that it's 'in stock' when I get round to it.

Do you happen to know how many bulbs there are in there? (I'm still trying to get my hands on a discounted Haynes Manual!)

Incidentally thanks also for all your previous inputs and to everyone else on this board - everything is of interest and in particular previous threads on oil consumption and weird level readings have put my mind at rest!

Heres what I came up with on the parts fiche....

The bulbs dont look too expensive but there are three different bulbs with three different wattages.
62 14 2 306 127 is the 7W bulb. My guess would be thats the ones for the main illumination and the smaller ones are for the indicators. Ask the dealer.

Thank you paroyboy - what an amazing source of info this board is!

I'll quiz the dealer - CW Motorcycles in Dorset. They have won several magazine awards for their helpfulness/service and I've found them excellent - but it seems most BMW dealers are, in the UK at least. Does this hold good in the US and 'down under' as well?

They're 80 miles from me but worth the (interesting) trip - unfortunatey I have two dogs and a wife to transport so it will have to be the car this time... !
