remus install question
Just got my remus carbon can and y-pipe connector delivered today. Will install tomorrow. To those who have done an install, I have a couple of questions (since the pieces didn't come w/ directions). Looks straight forward except it says to "install the silencer w/the suppied bracket onto the connecting pipe and fix w/ the springs". They did supply one bracket and the instructions (which have "R1150GS" at the top) says to "remove sleeve "A" from the original BMW bracket", and "install sleeve A into the REMUS bracket as shown". Am I to use this bracket on my Rockster? If yes, What is "the original BMW bracket" that I am to remove sleeve A from? Also, I don't see any "springs" in the parts? Is there any clamp that should be supplied/ or that I have to get to clamp the y-pipe/can connection? Thanks a lot..
update: After looking at the bike, I figured out the "bracket" part. I still don't know how the can attaches to the y-pipe. As I mentioned, I can't find any springs. On the y-pipe, I see a couple of attachment points where it looks like springs could fit. I don't see any place on the can for springs to attach. It seems to me that there should be a bracket to tighten down the connection to prevent exhaust leak.

But use the clamp that held the original can/cat together and you can re-use the little plate that acts as a heel guard.
Install was easy..very straight forward. 02 sensor was able to be mounted w/o any problem. Bike has a nicer subtle growl compared to the stock set-up. It appeared to run a little rough and hesitated for a little while, then cleared up and ran terrific. I'm supposing that some type of control module or something had to reconfigure to the lesser back pressure...
remus y piece
Looking for a bit of advice really. I,ve had my rockster about eighteen months now and it came with a Remus y piece on. I have to admit I didn't notice at the time, I just liked the bike.
When I'm out riding I get a hughe backfire at times. I'm told that is what happens with the y piece on because it doesn't always burn off the fuel in the exhaust now the cat has been removed. It rides really well but the backfire bugs me particularly when I throttle off for a corner. It has the ability to make a lot people jump when riding in traffic. It has made me wonder if I should buy and refit a cat and collector box. That isn't cheap.
Anyway has anyone who has done this mod experienced the same problem?

I get the same backfire thru my Remus when I back off the throttle. Not always, but when it does it's LOUD. I've just become accustomed to rolling off the throttle rather than letting it snap shut and this seems to have reduced the backfires alot. Not sure if theres a way around this or not, or if TADT....

Thanks for that Lobo. What you have described sounds eactly what happens. Maybe I just have to practice rolling off that throttle a little more.
In order to get rid of the backfiring, you gotta adjust the fuel-air mixture ratio thingie - any mechanic here that can chime in and be more specific?
All I know is that mine backfired after the Y-pipe and can installed and the BMW shop did nothing about it. I was pissed off for a year while riding with the backfiring and then my mechanic guru (non-BMW dealership) adjusted the thingiemajig, balanced the throttle body and the bike ran like it had never ran before. Of course, a dyno-tuned Power Commander also helped with the nasty mid-range flat spot.

I'm interested in the flatspot fnfalman. Did it by any chance come in around 4000 to 4500 rpm?
I've been moaning about a flat spot around that area since I bought the bike.
It runs smooth up to about 4000 rpm then just seems to go flat until it bursts in at about 4500rpm.
The Bm mechanics have said the same to me. You can't do anything about it.

do you guys have the CATCODE plug (or whatever it's called) in the fuse box??
If so, TRY taking it out and seeing what the bike does.
As I understand it, the CATCODE plug (CCP) alters the f/a ratio according to a set ratio within the plug, and the bike will run better without this interference. (ie it'll run on the default Motronic ratios).
My UK Rocksters (all 3 of them) have never had a CCP fitted.
