I too am thinking about doing a little handlebar adjustment. Before I get into it, I was wondering if there is anything I should know about the grips. Is the left grip adhered with a glue? Must the handlebar be drilled-out in order to accomodate the heated grips? Are there any pointers that you all can give me? Mucho thanks!

I made my own using aluminium bar Straight 1" lift. Certainly can feel the difference.
I had a set on my GS that I made as well, 1" lift, 5/8" back.
They worked well on the GS, except if you rode on the pegs, then they were too far back.
I still have them and will try on the R, as with now having Sargent seats,
I feel as if I am reaching further to the bars.

Maybe a little simple disassembly will help you. Take the allen screw out of the left bar-end weight and remove it. You'll find the bar has a threaded insert welded to the end of the bar with a cut-out for the wires to the heated grips. The grip is separate from the bar, and is held on with screws and the grip clamps. If you are thinking of using a different bar, the easiest way is to buy a bar that already has those threaded bar-ends. Otherwise you'll have to cut them off your stock bar and weld it to the new.
I have the Ricky bars, an extreme way to make a bar change. CNC machined risers and a 1 1/8" Renthal aluminum bar with custom made bar inserts. It's a work of art, but expensive. For the stock bar I've always thought the Wonderlich riser was really nice. They do make a (what do they call it?) Touring bar that has more reach.

Do the 1150GS bars fit the R? Would the cables etc be long enough?
I like the wide bar feel, but not the "chopper" look.(DJ)

They do look good. However, They state it is unnecessary to change the brake cable. What brake cable ? Mines hydraulic.

I recently got some virtually identical to those, from Twisted Throttle. It appears that they are about $180? Is that US$? I got them for about $90US.
They look good and work as well as they look.

I bought the Moto-Techniques Bar Backs from Sierra.
You know the old saying you get what you pay for, well these bar backs work just fine, and did help with my sore wrists, BUT the finish is an eye-sore for me.
They do not match the bike at all, obviously a "less expensive" product.
If you don't care about the finish, and just want to rise your bars these will do just fine.

Just found this UK Ebay auction for the MV bar risers I bought recently.

Looks like they might go for quite a bit less than I paid for mine. He says he will only post to UK but they may be flexible on this if asked.

I too have the Verholen risers, & they have made my bike comfortable for ME, but we are all different. Very good quality, & fitted in a few minutes.

I'm also looking for risers. The VerHolens are pricey as VerHell and the Moto-Techniques don't look great to me. I found a somewhat-less-pricey-but-still-pricey option here --> http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/pr ... /2015/246/

Anyone with any experience with these? Claim to fit all kinds of everything and they do look sharp.
