I'm escaping the Texas heat -

I can't stand the Texas heat any longer. I'm off to Newfoundland to wander around for 9 days. Then home long enough to unpack and repack and say hello/goodbye to visiting relatives.

Then off to the Katmai wilderness of Alaska until the end of August. Flight to Anchorage, then to King Salmon, then float plane into Katmai,

Hopefully I'll make it out of there safely and back home by September so I can get back on this (the obligatory motorcycle content).

I've been trying to get to Alaska for an extended trip to flyfish for about 7 years and this year it is happening. I was just so excited about it I wanted to tell somebody and also to say "goodbye" for a while. I'm putting the bike on the charger for the month and then heading out on Monday. If I don't make it back, assume I ran into trouble somewhere on a river in Alaska..........

or decided to stay.

I too am soooo jealous. I can just hear that fly reel sing as that huge salmon takes you deep into the backing...*sigh*...one of these days I hope to experience that!

Michael (and any others who fly fish/photograph):

Check out this pack. I'm think I'll probably leave most of my photo gear in the boat in it's pack inside a dry bag. But when I get out to wade, I don't want to be without my fishing gear as well as my camera and at least one long lens and maybe the wide angle, so I think this pack will do the trick. Plus it has a place for the camelbak for hydration. And I'm hoping my guide will accomodate both fishing and photography willingly.

Those are the R1200C mirrors. Since that picture in the country was taken I've added the brush chrome reservoir covers. I still think I might like the chrome/black K mirrors, but I'm waiting on a good deal on some used ones in good shape. However, these C mirrors match the front of my bike pretty good since there is so much grey/silver and not much black. These mirrors do give a wider view than the stock mirrors did too. Here's a close up of the mirrors with the reservoir covers and a pic from the rider's perspective of the mirrors.

OK add me and the wife to the list of jealous, envious people on the board. That sounds like the trip of a life time. Fly fishing in Alaska and if the fish arenÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t there you can just take pictures of some of the most incredible scenery on the planet. We expect a full report with many pictures upon your return so we can at least pretend we were there. Have a great time and remember, you canÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t out run a bear but you can out run your guide.

That seems to be a well designed system and you certainly can't beat the price! Just be sure that if you do any aggressive wading in swift water, that you have a way to quickly release the pack should you loose your footing.
