What will you do when you stop riding.
Moderator: Moderators
My plan, if it ever comes to the time when I can no longer ride, is to go for one final ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and with my last remaining strength and riding ability, twist the trottle WFO one more time and . . . take out one of those blasted RVs plugging up traffic!

What retired riders want to do.
I originally asked the question without even having an answer for my own future.
Given that I think I will always enjoy motorcycles and machinery, I guess I'll have some work to do on my grandson's bikes - when they get old enough that is. I don't know if they'll agree with me riding their bikes but I'm sure they'll let me at least wash them.
I also like the suggestion of buying a sports convertible like a BMW Z-4 just for my wife and I to go cruising on warm summer nights and mild autumn days.

Oh they'll pass you by, Glory Days
in the wink of a young girls eye
Glory Days....Glory Days
I will sit around boring my grandchildren to tears with stories of my 'glory days'.
Yellowjacket....I plan to ride to Alaska in the summer of my 50th year...yikes, that year begins in January!!
I might also just go to Nordstroms and buy expensive shoes. Not nearly as much fun as riding, but the $$ is the same as I currently spend on gear!

Get one of them large sit on mowers and cut grass every where. There a couple of big parks near me. I could spend all day zooming up and down, living old memories, but with a nice soft landing if I full off. But that makes me think a quadbike might fill the bill when I can't balance any more or the knees unfold too slow.

I have actually been to Alaska twice before...once in 85 and again in 91. Both were fly in fishing trips and I loved it.
yup, I came out a few ticks low on my hemoglobin...The first trip it was skeeters the second trip it was a tiny, abundant, biting fly they called 'white-sox'.. they actually left little holes in me. lots o-HUNGRY BUGS!!!
but BIG hungry fish as well.
So I'm with Kristi, when I am too old to ride...I can fish.

I agree FM69....that's why I have a 9'6" Mal.When I'm not riding my r1150, I grab my SURFBOARD, walk behind my house and catch a few waves.
For those of you that have never SURFED...life is too short not to SURF
btw..you can never have too many surf boards..
Here's my key tag....Life is too short..

We have a saying down under.."No worries mate".Fantastic DJ. Takes a lot of bravery from what I've read. National Geographic did a write up a couple of years back that Australia has more deadly creatures in it's waters than anywhere!
I figure that they're more scared of us than we are of them......but then there's White Pointers..
After more than 40 yrs of surfing the only white pointers that I've seen were on the beach..(girls sunbaking topless)

None of it will matter cause in heaven the bikes never need gas, never break down, never get flat tires, the oil level is always at the red line, the splines never fail, and you never get bugs on the windshield, helmet visor or your teeth. The seat heat and the heated grips will be the least ordered options on the list. No need for a Throttlemeister either cause there ain't no speed limit anyway and you can throw away your Valentine One. And you can get away with riding with no protective gear like the Harley people do. And nobody will ever cut you off in traffic because we all know where THOSE people will be!!
Ahhh!!! I can hardly wait . . .

When I stop riding...
I will sit back in my rocking chair, close my eyes and relive the sights, sounds, smells and exhilaration of all the low level flying that I am able to do now, through mile after mile of gorgeous scenery, beautiful skies and fascinating cities and towns; chuckle at all the great people I've met and their wonderful stories, jokes, ride reports and their friendship on the road; and just be glad that I had the chance to do it all when I did and revel in the fact that I chose to do it at all, to run the risk of living life to the fullest in at least one small corner of my life.

Drones
I just sat down on the train that drones me in and out of DC daily. With the other 3000 drones who also travel this line. What a bunch of sheep we are.
Anyway, as I pass in and through the various wireless hotspots, this might post up.
The post is a good one, but it has shown it's ups and downs.
Guys, we are the mighty Roadsterista and Roadsterettas. We have purchased a machine that accomplishes what Ponce de Leon was seekiing in the waters of Florida. Fountain of Youth.
I'm doing Boise; he's doing Alaska; DJ surfs. We are not letting advancing years dictate our age. We dictate how the advancing years are spent!
Thanks for all the well stated posts.
Now, DJ, about those white pointers.... this thread is useless without pics.
