Trailering a R1150R

On occasion it will be necessary for me to trailer my new R1150 R, I have proper Pingel tie downs and wheel chocks in an enclosed trailer. Because the front suspension is different from any other bike I've had I was wondering if there is anything I need to do different than what I've done in the past, which was usually tieing from the bottom of the triple tree and loading up the suspension with a ratcheting tie down strap. Thanks in advance.

i trailer my r1150 all the time...just strap it .

Ya mine gets trailered all the time too, by BMW Roadside

It's true, the one time my bike was trailered was by roadside..weekend before last

I found this information on tying down your Beemer somewhere on the net and saved both the .pdf file and the link. Haven't used any of the information but it looks sound.

I can't believe there is a trailer tread on a BMW site!

Seriously, when I sold my old '83 RS, the guy came to pick it up with a truck and asked about tie-down points. I gave him a puzzled look. In 16 years and 85,000 miles of ownership, it had never been in a truck or trailer. I didn't know how to tie it down!

I'm with ya but sometimes, ya gotta. I'm planning a trip to tag along with friends who've already scoped the trip and are planning to trailer bikes from Denver and Fort Collins to Kalispell, Montana. That is about a 3 day ride so we're trailering to preserve our vacation days and allow for more time in the Canadian Rockies. Don't have enough vacation days to add 3 more to the 10 we're going to be riding through Canada so on to a trailer it will go !!

I guess I understand for exceptional circumtances. I had some friends going on a time-constrained Alaska trip that trailered 4 bikes to South Dakota and drove 24/7 to save time.

It just doesn't look right though!

If I had my druthers, I depart from Fort Collins, my home, and take a nice long route up through Wyoming, Teton Nat'l Park, Yellowstone Nat'l Park and take the Beartooth Highway into Montana and the beautiful valleys and mountains and Flathead Lake to Kalispell. And then, instead of coming home, I'd head up to Alaska. Guess I just described one of my "retirement" rides, when I should have more time, less money, but hopefully a bike worthy of such a trip

After that, I'd like to do the roads of North Carolina !!

Maybe I will hide it under a cover that has "Harley Davidson" festooned all over it.

Then no one would think twice about it.

If you do the NC mountains, give me a shout!

I used to live in the Glacier Park and Kalispell area but didn't have a bike at the time!
