Seat pain - sargent seat

Post by ErikU »

After a few hours on the stock seat my tail bone aches and is stiff.. it gets worse as I get off the bike, but the pain goes away quickly after that.

I purchased a Sargent seat that arrived today.. it's not a good fit for me though and I will have to send it back. Two problems: It is quite a bit taller than stock, and I couldn't comfortably flat foot the bike (even though I'm 5'10). Also the dished seat cut into my legs on the side too much and made the reach harder at a stop too.

Too bad though, a beautiful seat.. super well put together. I'll sell it for what I paid ($265, front only) or I'll just send it back tomorrow.

Anyone else have pain in the tail bone (not in any place that comes in contact with the seat, but slightly higher)? How did you deal with it?

I have a Rick Mayer seat. It too is a bit taller, and I can no longer flat foot my bike anymore. I, like you, am 5'10" but I find not being able to flat foot a minor inconvenience. Once your used to the balance of the R, it doesnt really matter that you cant get both feet down, at least to me. The Rick Mayer seat is definately a winner in my book. Rick is a critical care nurse with a background in Orthopedics, and his seats really show it! I once traded seats with a friend who had a Sargent on his R. He road with my Rick Mayer seat on his bike, me with his Sargent on mine. By the end of the day he asked me if I wanted to trade seats permanently! He apparently was that impressed with my RM seat.

The Sargent is ok, but for my money the Rick Mayer seat is superior!

i'm guessing the RM seat you can't buy just the front part? if so can you use the stock rear pillion? obviously it doesn't match, but will it even fit?

I'm 5ft6 with shorter proportional inseam. I love that Sargent seat. I'm on one foot and that's plenty good.
Cogito Ergo Vroom - I think therefore I ride.

It actually matches the rear seat perfectly and fits very well. It's such a nice seat it's too bad it doesn't fit well for me. I may end up having sargent cycle do a custom seat for me.
