Metzeler Z4 or Z6?
Time for new tyres (tires).
What's the difference between the Z4 and Z6? Does one suit a different style of riding better than the other?
Any advice/opinions welcomed

Don't know about the Z4, but I did put 13,000kms on a pair of Z6s last year. Great sport-touring tires, wet & dry grip were great. I should note as well, that I probably could have gotten another 3-5000kms out of the set. I just wanted to ride some stickier tires for the spring (Pilot Powers) - I will be mounting another set of the Z6s for my summer vacation, crossing Canada & back.

Z4 Is Plenty Good Enough
Hello,
I have almost 6000 miles on my Z4's and they are going strong. Should easily make at least 10,000 maybe 12,000. Wet or dry, they seem fine and are the stock tire on my 04 1150RT. I have no complaints but I m sure the Z6's would be very good, too.

I have a set of the Z4's myself and have been impressed with them. I was under the impression (perhaps mistaken) that the Z4's were slightly more touring oriented for a sport tire whereas the Z6's are more of a sporting tire with some good tread wear.

Thanks for all your posts and votes.
It looks like the Z6 get the nod although my local dealer still offers Z4 and Z6 so don't know if Z6 really is a Z4 replacement.
Looking at the tyres(tires), the Z4 'looks' grippier than the Z6 but then you can't tell by looking.
Don't know how much you pay for these in the U.S but I've been quoted £187 -US$330 approx- (fitted) here in the UK.

Charlie, I got 8,000 mi (Z4's) (and a nail, but the tires were done), so far I have 9,000 on the pilot Roads and still feel pretty good, It should be said , I am NOT a very aggressive rider. I had some cupping when my set of z4s were wearing. It made it hard to put the bike into a turn. I am on my second set of z6s and found them to wear more evenly. I can't recall if the z4s felt any better or not. I'm happy with the sixes though.
The last set ran 7.5k. javascript:emoticon('

I have had both and both handle excellant, wet or dry. Not too much difference in mileage either, although I would have to check the bike log to see for sure. My Z6 front lasted about 7K, which for me is good. The rear rode it's last ride today and lasted about the same.
The only way I could get 10K out of a tire is throw it in the back of my car for the last 4,000 miles!

Yong - I have no idea what the deal is on my tire mileage but it is consisent and I am not alone. Most of the riders in this area that I know get similar results. Some that ride sportier tires get lots lower mileage! One guy I know trashed a set in one weekend! It was a fun weekend though!

tire wear
I got about 6,400 miles on the Z6 rear that I removed tonight. Almost exactly what I got with the Avon and the Z4s. Much be the roads roughness or the mostly twisty roads i ride, but I have never gotten much better out of tires.
Maybe you get a better quality air in the tires!
