Bought my City Cases last week on Ebay from Hammersley BMW..saved $125 over what local dealer wanted.
The feed back from all of you in my 'Are they worth it thread' was/is dead on...these cases are indeed beautiful!
Anyway...
Dumb Q for those who have gone thru this...I got NO instructions..at all...not even in German.
I figured out how to mount the rails (no topcase rack) fairly quickly, but it looks like I must punch/score out a hole on the bottom of the rail for the latch mechanism...correct??
There is a semi-obvious area indicated on the bottom of the rail, but it looks to be no ordinary 'cut-out'.
All the fiches out there say I got the right parts, I just need to cut a hole??

I know what you mean...Don't touch it!!!...the tab that pushes from the case looks like it should push into some thing..like a slot..(yes I know the faint marks are there)..but it just pushes agianst the rail..not into anything.
Hope this helps...and I'm not too late....Did you start to butcher it?..

Thanks, DJ.
Pressure fitting, eh??
It just seemed natural that there would be a slot there.
I haven't done anything yet...not even mounting the rails. It just seemed that an awful lot of pressure was required to push the handle down when it was mounted in the rail...I stopped trying as I did not want to bust anything.
I wonder if anyone has modified the rail with a slot??
Thanks again....

No cutting or drilling is needed. To mount a case, unlock it and pull up the large handle. Make sure that the top tabs on the case are securely in their slots on the rail, and that the bottom support piece is in its little slot on the front of the case. Then, making sure that the red locking tab is out of the way, apply light pressure down on the case while pressing the case handle down. Lock the case, repeat other side. Don't worry about the seemingly excessive pressure on the handle. If all tabs are fully in their slots, all will be well.
If the bike's on the side stand and the cases are full and heavy, I like to put the left case (side stand side) on first. That way there's less of a chance of the right case pulling the bike off the side stand.

Thanx, Cap....
I did not get the bottom support piece(s), tho. Hmmmm...I asked for everything needed to mount these, but I can see on one fiche two small 'wings' I did not get....

In the center of the cases, on the side that is closest to the wheel there is a formed groove protuberance, about 1.2-2" long--between the two small "wings." These fit onto the metal/plastic rear facing ptojection that is attached to the rear foot pegs--kind of a tongue and groove arrangement. There are thus three plastic fittings that attach the case to the bike: two on the mounting rail and the tang just described above. When you push the big handle down flat there is a fourth attachment--a metal clamp that clamps (I believe) to the frame somehow (I really haven't looked at this part so I am winging the explanantion here a little, but will when I get home).
So, if you have the proper rails attached to the bike, then cases should go right on.

Thanx, Doc...
Just got home and after further review I figgered the passenger peg support thing out.
It's that '4th attachment' you mentioned that I lead this thread off with....
It does not go to the frame, but, I gather, just puts upward pressure on the bottom of the rail...it does not clamp to anything.
Looks to me like it should be a classic 'Tab A into Slot B' (can I say that here?? ) setup, but I guess not.....
