proper pants length

Just got a new pair of riding pants--Ultimate Pants from RevIt USA. No report on them yet, but I have been pleased with previous purchases from them--Hurricane Gloves, AirFlow Mesh Jacket and Nemo Boots.

Question about pants length: When on my RR, pegs in normal position, the pants ride up to near the top of the boots, overlapping about 1-1.5 inches. Should pants length go down to the instep of your boot when in riding position, or is simple overlap of the top of the boot sufficient for adequate protection?

I know this sounds REAL anal, but this is the second pair shipped to me-first was way too big, and I don't want to ship again if not necessary. On the other hand I want them to fit properly.

First, congrats on the new city name. I almost died when I heard him say that.

Now, to the pants. I think that they should reach at least down to your ankles, even while seated. Their protection should be marginal, at best, if they are up near the tops of your boots.

How is Mardi Gras coming along? I can't imagine that Endymion or Bacchus will take their traditional routes. But, in the New Chocolate City, won't they be somewhat out of place? Long live Zulu, the new king of Mardi Gras!!

definitely above the ankles; sounds like a third pair will be coming my way.

MG begins tonight; just in Metairie and the North Shore, but I think there may be a parade in Orleans tomorrow. They announced yesterday that there is not enough funding for basic city services during MG, but they believe the almighty tourist dollar will be enough to cover. We'll see.
The mayor's race is pretty interesting.

Ankle, for sure to prevent wind, rain, cold, etc. Do the pants have some type of system to tighten the cuff around the boot? I must recommend the Aerostich Darien pants for that feature. When I'm walking in them I look like a guy wearing pants that are 2" too long, but when I'm riding, and wearing my touring boots, never a drop has dampened my toes.

Your pants are too short, the others are right, they should come close to the ankle.

I have a pair of tecknic super vents for hot weather, and a pair of firstgear killmajaro for extreme weather. Both excellent and when seated they hover around the edge of my ankles.

thanks for the advice; not what I wanted to hear, but what I needed to hear.

They zip down the lower leg so they're pretty tight at the boots. The boots are waterproof and warm.

I want to use the RevIt Ultimate pants because they zip to my jacket and have two zip in liners--one for waterproofing and one for warmth, and are hot weather vented with no liners in place--three birds, one stone.

Problem solved by geeting a different length.

Interestingly enough, the original size that the Rev'It rep suggested was the proper fit. I thought I needed a different size...I was wrong, they were right.

PS New Orleans first post katrina Mardi Gras was a great success. It was a beautiful day and in the afternoon took a wonderful ride around the city, mostly steering clear of the well behaved crowds. Got quite a few compliments on the Roadster.

Congrats on the ride and the success of the new Mardi Gras. I heard recently that the success of MG this year wasn't measured in the usual fashion, (tons of garbage), but by how much it was actually going to cost to clean up. Where did you ride too?

just around town--lakefront, City Park, Carrollton, Canal, Poydras, to Tchoup. and then home
