Hey all, what do you think about creating a safety string? Short LESSONS LEARNED that can be read in flash.
With thousands of years of experience from the riders who visit this site...we might be able to save a few in our community from an unfortunate incident or two...maybe even a life.
I'd be glad to start: If you've been around this site for a while, you might remember when I was rear-ended and sandwiched between a truck and car while SITTING STILL, due to a truck TWO cars behind me. Thank God, I was only bruised...and am still cannot figure out why I was spared not being crippled.
LESSONS:
1) CONTINUOUSLY (every few seconds!) LOOK behind you when stopped
2) ALWAYS have an ESCAPE route
3) Allow plenty of ROOM between you and the next vehicle when stopped (or moving, for that matter)
4) LANE SPLIT even when stopped (so that you can split, if a cager is coming from behind to make a hood ornament of you).
5) Some would also add: always have your bike in first gear, clutch depressed, ready to go when stopped, so that you can get out FAST as needed.
Believe me, I thought it would never happen to me...and the statistics show that rear-ends are rare occurances, but guess what: it happens and happened to me.

Oooor geees...I usually sit at a red light paying the drums on the tank while I listen to the latest Santana album on my iPod while looking at the light thinking...come on change.
I have to agree that's a good idea for busy traffic...I have one to add.
Never stop too close behind a bus or truck in a position that he can't see you in his mirors...he might decide to suddenly back up...I had this happen once on a steep downhill slope..I couldn't paddle my bike back..he was revving his engine so my little toot-toot horn couldn't be heard...very scary..I was about to jump off when he stopped.
