That is my favorite motorcycle "essay" of any I've ever read. It comes around on the Internet every couple of years and I always marvel with unashamed envy at the skills of that writer!

The writer is Mr. Dave Karlotski and the name of the piece is "Season of the Bike".

Too bad we were never "allowed" to have the Writer's Forum on here like a few of us campaigned for (thank you Doug)...it would have been a great place to archive things like this, now it will slowly slide off to Page 43 of Off Topic, never to be seen again.
Then someday, hopefully, it will be discovered anew and we will all marvel again at this guy's remarkable insight into what it is we really "do" and "know", and this man's great gift to us...of painting such a vivid picture of what only we know, or can know.

As good as this piece is, I've found it virtually useless in trying to "explain" what we do to the non-rider. They just seem to focus on the 'misery' references and leave the others unknown and uninteresting.
I seem to get about 50% understanding with it when I send it to riders who insist on riding through our all-too-brief journey on motorcycles looking through a large plastic bug-spattered window.

This piece boys and girls, IMHO, defines the "Roadster Experience."
Something not to be missed by those who love motorcycles!

That was a sweet piece of writing.

I too printed it and my lovely wife will be forced to read it. She's an English major; I think she'll enjoy it, even if she doesn't fully get it.
