I've heard that's what we should expect...collyers wrote:I hope that the 800S weighs 350lbs & has 75+BHP - otherwise, why bother?
I prefer rubber-bandscollyers wrote:It looks good, except for the giant rubber-band drive.
depends on which type of "riding" you're referring tocollyers wrote:How does she ride in those CFM shoes?

I'm with you, Collyers...
I'm with you, Collyers...
350 lbs. and 75-80 HP should be the target, and a price of about $8,000 US or less...
But we both know it will be more like 430-450 lbs. and 70 HP or less (at the rear wheel), and cost over $10,000 US...
To me this bike is going to do nothing more than sell more Suzuki 650 V-twins and the new Kawasaki 650 parallel twins.
Oh, and I don't care what she wears as long as it ends up on my bedroom floor...
Cheers!

If the rumors are to be believed it will be 440lbs and 80hp. I like the look of the ST very large.
The only nit I'd be picking is where they put the battery. On the F650, it is a real PITA to add fluid or swap out. Still and all, if the seat height isn't too tall this might be a winner.
CFM? Certainly not cubic feet per minute?

F800ST dry weight is to be under 190 kg (420 lbs), it looks like the S should drop the luggage rack, fairing lowers, and maybe a few other things so I could see it being under 400 lbs dry. I guess that's a solid 50 lbs. more than collyers and Dallara were looking for, but word is 80+ BHP...
I just hope it gets the option for non-servo ABS. I have a feeling that will be what swings me one way or another.

CFM...
440 lbs. is too heavy, and 80 HP out of 800 cc's is not enough... Especially if it is in the $10,000 US price range.
CFM?
Why, that's "Come F**k Me", of course...
I always liked CMFMP better...
Oh, and Optimus... You'll just *LOVE* that belt-drive... right up until the day it ingests a stone and frags a rear pulley!!! Seen no less than four Harley's with blown-up rear "sprockets" that way... And I don't know that many people with Harley's!
Cheers!

Cool looking bike, mechanically. Good basic design formula.
Too bad about the unfortunate "BMW styling" though.
Should be a good "move up" touring bike for F650 riders.
And a good "move down" touring bike for old farts and/or those who are tired of "Orca the "Effin' Whale" RT's & "BMW styled" ST's, etc.
More power & less weight would be very nice as well.
I'd happily go with the belt drive if I was going to be on-road 90+% of the time. I know of some Buells who live happily in a 80+% off-road environment in Big Bend. But it is a bit of a crap shoot.

That may be my future. I have over 300K miles on K75 bikes, from 1986 to 1997. They did not hold me back. They were 500+ lbs and 70hp.darthrider wrote: And a good "move down" touring bike for old farts and/or those who are tired of "Orca the "Effin' Whale" RT's & "BMW styled" ST's, etc.
Right now it looks to me that the Rotax bikes are more reliable then the oilheads.
You don't stop riding because you get old - you get old because you stop riding!
Got a flyer from my local Motorrad dealer and they look like they are doing a fire sale on the F650 line. Does anyone know if the F-series still has a lease on life with the new 800s coming to town?
And someone tell me please, why manufacturer's stated weight for their bikes is hardly something to bet bucks on?

Marketing. Only a magazine here or there will call them on it, and that will soon be forgotten. And someone tell me please, why manufacturer's stated weight for their bikes is hardly something to bet bucks on?
I'd like to set up a large scale at a rally and weigh bikes "as ridden." I bet that would cause a storm of denial among the riders. Then put them on a dyno and watch the riders' heads explode when they see the low rear wheel outputs.

CMFMP? I'm working on it.......
Power-to-weight ratio is also the "funmeter", in technical terms. 75HP & 525lbs is our beloved Roadsters (each single BHP pushes 7lbs) and as wonderful as they are, the "fun" meter never really hits the red zone too often. My 325lb 55hp (5.9lbs per BHP) city & hooligan machine is almost always in the red zone on the funmeter, and is dead even in drag races w/my R. If the Ducati Hyperthingy is 385lbs w/100+ HP (3.85lbs per 1BHP), it too, will go deep into the funmeter. The T-800 seems a little heavy for 70HP, but hopefully has a light "feel" and can be buried into turns. I like the idea of belt drive, especially from a weight & maintanence perspective, but it's just not pleasing to look at at all. It seems extreme, but when an R6 can weigh 375lbs & have 150bhp........(2.5lbs per BHP!!!)
BMW can do it, it's just a matter of IF.

F800 RT?
Just wondering if they are considering a R800 RT also?
http://www.motorcycledaily.com/16november05_2006bmw.htm
Motorcycle Daily claims 418lbs and 80bhp at the flywheel for the F800s model. The st model will obviopusly weigh a little more.
Of course BMW uses dry weight claims which probably doesn't include the battery.
Curiously, they claim the R1200s to be 418lbs as well, but with 120+ bhp. I haven't seen the wheelbase number yet, but the R1200s looks like a real hoot.

Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please.

Tough call.
I'll hafta wait 'till I see an Orange 'S' sitting next to that Atlanta Blue 'ST'...... I could swing either way IF the 'S' can be had with bags (sans the luggage rack?).
Bar backs, smoked screen, Laser Duo Tech can, ceramic lined Satin Black headers, and a GPS........
Same rear wheel horsepower as the R1150R, on a bike that weighs significantly less, and very linear mid-range! This is gonna get the attention of people who thought they'ed NEVER consider anything under 1,000cc's.
"Bigger is better" will soon be seen in the light of "Conspicuous Consumption." The irony is how EXPENSIVE the small 800cc Beemer/Rotax will be........ I might speculate that the 'ST' will be more expensive than a sexy 120 hp R1200S, and the 800'S' not far behind. Great bike, but I just got slammed upside the head with the realization that it will NOT be competitively price.
Too bad, I really want one.
