What This Board Needs is a Good Drinking Thread

For some, caffeine is a nasty slave driver.... I used to drink a couple mugs in the morning to wake up and get going, then around 4pm I'd need another mug to keep me from falling asleep... I challenge any of you coffee junkies to give it up. Your life will REALLY be better. You will find it easier to wake up in the morning. You won't want to take a nap in the afternoon. You'll have more energy. You'll be less irritable. I know, I did it. I still drink it as a treat once in a while, but in the morning my wife and I drink tea, yes TEA! I am a total Earl Grey junkie. So, I gave up one addiction for another, but my wife thinks I'm easier to deal with and, if she's happy I'm happy... Oh yeah, I'd say my favorite beer is Franziskaner Wheat Beer... I love a good red wine, especially Pinot Noir. Laphroiag scotch... Glenlivet, too...

I drink crappy coffee at work and yes I'm addicted.
I brew my own beer, Dark Stouts, and Porters, I call em hi test, one of em and your getting somewhere. 3 of them and you better be sitting down before you fall down.
I LOVE good beer, so I resorted to brewing. Its way cheaper than 6.99 a six-pac AND I keg it in old style pepsi syrp kegs before the plastic boxes were used. You can use CO2 or Nitrogen, I use both. Have a fridge in the garage with taps.
I always brew an Amber Wheat beer for the summer heat, its a real hit on those 110 degree days, real refreshing.
I love good Cigars, and when I go to Mexico I smuggle..I mean I bring in real Cubans, never been checked on the bike.
A good bar-b-q is homemade beer, homemade sauce, 3 fingers of good Bourbon and a fine cigar, then a long nap.

Am not a coffee drinker, but when flying if I want to create excitment on the flight deck, all I have to do is inform the crew we are on the Starbucks Arrival to DFW. Translation, we will be parking at Gate B15. Starbucks to the immediate right exiting the jet bridge. Keeps the crew pumped for the day.
You can drink 'em pretty, but you can't drink 'em skinny.
Pat! You grind! A friend at work gave me some designer coffee beans that smell real good! But I don't have a grinder...However, this may be something I'd want to invest in......
Can you suggest a decent grinder that I can get at Wal-Mart or somewhere so I can try my hand at this without getting in too deep.

Phil,
You don't hafta do what I did..... pay the big bucks for a "burr grinder." They're more expensive, not as easily found in popular stores, and are less likely to cook/over-heat your beans like an inexpensive grinder may.
You'll be able to find an inexpensive blade grinder, and it'll do the job. It makes you feel like you're part of a process of making coffee with your own 'personal touch'....
What I want to do is to buy a coffee roaster, roast my own beans, and prepare my coffee with the freshly roasted beans 24-72 hours later. MMMmmm GOOD!

Coffee Roaster
A friend of mine roasts his own coffee beans using an old style electric popcorn popper and SWEARS by it... I bet you could find one of those poppers at a garage sale and be on your way... Then you'd have to find the unroasted beans... But you live in CA, so anything's possible....

Yong, splenda aka 'sucralose' is POISON. This toxic mess takes sucrose and subsitutes two hydroxyl groups (-OH) for chlorine.

Scott,
What's that stuff you told me you were drinking in the morning? Some of us might want to explore alternatives to that cup-o-joe in the morning.
When I have my act together and I feel like I wanna practice healthy habits, I have been known to mix a little local honey in a mug of hot water, adding a shot of natural Apple Cider Vinegar. It tastes just like Hot Apple Cider if you get the ratio right. There are healthy properties purported to making a habit of this first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
