top case

Post by seisouso »

Anyone know why there's no top case for the r1150r? I have that little soft case, but I find it lacking in capacity and security. I don't understand why the top case isn't available for this model. Has anyone adapted the top case from other models? What obstacles did you face? I still like the BMW top cases best, but if I can't figure out a mounting solution I may have to go to an off brand.

I know we've had a lot of discussion about the topcases, but after seeing a lot of cases on this bike, I still think mine looks the best. It is a Hepco-Becker unit, and the luggage rack (nice unit, actually has a very functional front riser piece) and the case go for a little over $250 delivered. My case is a 40 litre, has a silver top accent which matches my bike perfectly, and is very good quality. Took me 10 minutes to have it on and gone. I don't have a picture to share, but do look into it. Also, it looks good without the sidecases too....not a huge, but-ugly box on the back of a gorgeous, sexy bike.

thanks for the tip. Did you get one of those aluminum ones or the Journey? Don't suppose you have a link to the one you got?

I bought a bike with the system cases and a Givi Micro2 top case. I didn't like the look of the case at first. It has grown on me for 3 reasons. Even being the micro it is fairly large and top loading. It has a brake light in it that is up in peoples faces and is very noticable. It removes in 1 second.

Givi V46

Post by TonyT607 »

Seisouso, if you're interested in a Givi check out my post on this subject from July. I did a pretty nice custom install using the stock luggage rack and the BMW mounting lpate that goes with that crappy soft case. I paid $215 for the V46. You'll also have to secure a BMW plate if you don't have one.

Tony,

That looks good. One thing I don't like about mine is the Givi mounting plate when the case is off. I don't have any pictures with me, I could take one tonight. Because it's black I think I'm the only one that notices it. Is the BMW silver one you have plastic?

Tipstall, yeah I hear ya. I didn't like the look of the Givi mount with the case off. The BMW mounting plate is plastic. I like the fact that the box is locked to the bike but can be removed in 2 seconds.

My set up is a little sturdier than most - I also have the Stealth backrest steel plate under the luggage rack.

I've stuffed about with two different variations of 'modified' top box racks and two different cases. In the end, I purchased the GIVI set-up and could not be happier. It is very solid, I can live with the looks, and now have enough space for some very long trips, all well-protected from the elements and casual theft. Worth every cent.
