Arizona Riders - Just Another Day

Post by BobFV1 »

I took the race plastic off my R1 yesterday and decided to take it on a shakedown ride up to Tortilla Flat in the Superstition Mountains East of Phoenix.

Did a couple of roll-ons up to 110 with a squid on a GSX on the way out there.

On the flat road heading up to the twisties, two squids on a Duc and an R6 were holding me up. I passed them and they were hanging with me in the straights, but when we got to the twisty stuff I put a great deal of road between us. All was going well until a Sherriff's Deputy clocked me on radar over 2 times the speed limit next to Canyon Lake. I was proud of the fact that he had me pulled over for at least 4 minutes before the two squids passed me - that was only 14 miles after I passed them.

Long story short - the Deputy was pissed. Yelled at me, threatened to tow the bike and arrest me. Then I was able to negotiate it down to a verbal warning. Think I'll take the RT next time I go over that road - easier to hold it down. Going 25 on the R1 is like - don't know what to say - it's not even as good as kissing your sister... Thank goodness next track day is only 3 weeks away.

Ride safe.

Cool! That's one of my favorite places to go. My buddy got a ticket crossing the double yellow going out there once on his RC51. The racer boys out on early Sunday morns are quite entertaining. I went to Victory's Octoberfest this morn. Not too exciting. Talked to a Yamaha rep guy about the automatic FJR, still not sure I get it.

Guess I shoulda road up to TF for breakfast instead...

Sorry I missed you, I was over at Victory about 1200. Good food! They had a couple of excellent used bike deals too - a couple of very low mileage (less than 15K!) LT's - one a 2000 and one a 1999. I'm going out of town for three weeks tomorrow, but we should definately hook up an AZ rider breakfast - maybe mid-November.

Sounds good. Did you see that HP sold for $20k!!! That's sure seems like alot for a dirt bike! They rolled that silver KR out from the back while I was there. My wife was there to squash the temptation.

Hey Bob and BP..missed the do da at Victory, family in from out of town.
I'd like to meet over breakfast and a ride, I'm heading over next week to negotiate on the silver and red ST, decided it was the ride for me and the FJ will just have to wait.
Bob the trick to go fast over there is to take your own cop with you, I have 2 riding buddies, one a DPS officer and one a sheriff deputy. Got pulled over up on the other side of Payson last summer with those 2, we were quasi illegal. Just ended up shooting the breeze with the officer and they talked shop a few minitues, a little professinal courtesy goes a long way.

It was actually the courtesy that helped me out today - I am a former LEO and can generally convey this information in the proper way. I have a couple of local police officers I ride with from time to time, but even they don't mess with the DPS.

Ride safe.
