Around the island in a day with DJ

Post by DJ Downunder »

Yes today I rode around the island...Phillip Island...the home of the Aussie Moto Gp.... http://www.visitphillipisland.com/splash/

In a few days we'll have Rossie,Collin,Nicky..even Sete down under for the Moto Gp race this coming Sunday...Waaah..Hooo!!!

We had a beautiful Spring day in Melbourne today so I rode down to the island a take some pics...here they are.

First stop...just a sign.

Image

.
Next stop...just some cows near the giant worn attraction... . :D

Image

.
Here's the end of the giant worm...last time I saw it it was plain brown..it looks like they've painted it up...with some Aboriginal art.

Image

.
Just before getting to the island I stopped at nice little surf spot with this old wooden bridge.

Image

.
This is up on top of the bridge looking south east.

Image

.
Now looking south west...that's Phillip Island in the distance.

Image

.
Just before going over the bridge to Phillip Island there's a small town called San Remo...and the best fish & chip shop around.

Image

Image

Image

.
The sign said..don't feed the sea-gulls...now I know why...geees there must have been millions of them.

Image

.
Someone must have dobbed me in for feeding them..sorry officer.. :)

Image

.
Once on the island my first stop was Islantis...one of the many surf shops...this one has one of those fake waves for a fun pic..so I did.

Image

Image

.
There was this big sign about the Moto Gp.

Image

.
My first beach stop was Woolamai beach.

Image

.
The next stop was Surfies Point...looking east towards Woolamai.

Image

.
Now looking west towards Smiths beach...and pyramid rock off the point.

Image

.
This is Smiths beach...and no...I didn't ride down onto the beach..almost :D

Image

Image

.
Another surf shop at Smiths...everybody surfs.

Image

.
Next stop..the track.

Image

Image

Image

.
Just up the road from the track is another great beach called Cat bay.

Image

Looking back towards Flinns beach.

Image

.
A little further up the road is a place called The Nobbies.

Image

.
Here's the Nobbies.

Image

.
Past the Nobbies...I needed a GS...but my RR was fine.

Image

.
The end of the track...looking back towards the Nobbies.

Image

.
Beautiful ocean..but it's Great White city out there.

Image

.
In the Nobbies car park was heaps of cars, trucks, big trucks, film crew...and even Poilce...I asked the cops "What's going on"

He said the Japanese were filming a new car add...he pointed at the blue car in the back of the truck....
I was going to take a spy pic but thought it might be a bit rude in front of the cop.

I came back past for a sneak pic...and the car was gone.

But up the road here it was...with a film crew...at Cat bay car park.

It was a new VW....Passat...it didn't look much different.

Image

.
Next stop was the main town on the island...a town called Cowes.

Image

Image

Image

.
All the beaches on the back side of the island are like this..no surf..very borring.

Image

.
Back in Cowes...the local pub thinks it's back in England.

Image

.
In Cowes I saw this black RR like mine go past..I followed it to the local petrol station..had a chat..nice guy..a local..told him about this site.

Image

.
Now I've hit the road to start my trip home.

Image

.
Just up the road from Cowes I stopped at this nice looking old barn.

Image

.
Here's what was in the back yard.

Image

.
Next stop was this huge Koala.

Image

.
Then a huge cow.

Image

.
The bridge off the island to San Remo.

Image

.
Wishing I had a GS again.

Image

.
A big sign on the way home.

Image

.
A big lookout that lets you see......nothing.

Image

.
One last stop a the giant worm again..a few more pics...and I almost got pecked...Emu's they're nasty critters.

Image

Image

.
That's all fokes.. :D

Great pics.

It looks like there aren't many people at any of these places. Is that the way it is, or is it just how you took the pictures?

I'd say DJ was a no show to get into the track. Otherwise we'd have a shedful of piccies to peruse.
PI is a bit of a sleepy hollow that comes to life for the motogp, less so for the supers and for 5-6 weeks over the summer holidays.

That pub used to be a shocker on nye...hundreds would be in the street, all tanked to the eyeballs immediately after closing..leo's everywhere, the occasional fight and the obligatory brick thru the bottle shop window.

Louts the lot of 'em...'cept 'lil o' me. 8)

Hey DJ...no penguins!
Cheers...and stay horizontal!

Indeed, DJ, absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for showing it off so well. Having lived on low energy beaches all my life, I am thoroughly knocked out by high energy, rock-bound coastlines.

Nice bridges, too.

Do you need RR-riding pharmacists Down Under???

PLEASSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEE say yes!!!

Course it aint helping that we're about 6-8 weeks from being under inches or feet of snow and its not like the weather between now and then is gonna be beautiful riding weather. I'm already starting to go through riding withdrawl and I still got a couple good weeks left with (hopefully) a great day or two left.

As usual, DJ, great shots! I love the way you get the RR into nearly every shot... Keep 'em coming!

:D MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!......FISH AND CHIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

So... you like the camera then? Shots are great.

I live only 30 minutes from the Isle of White, you have popped in. I bet your Isle of White is warmer than ours plus it is cheap to get over there (if you have to use ferries). The 15 minute journey from Southampton to the island is the most expensive ferry crossing (on a £ per nautical mile basis) than any other in the world.

I am no photographer, but we should give DJ credit for (among other things) having a good eye for composition. In the first picture, for example, the upward-looking angle is what makes the picture interesting.

DJ, you have a talent for that sort of thing.

I think you mean Adelaide...it's about 1000 klms (600 miles) north west...and about 8-10 hours drive/ride.

Sydney is about the same distance north east....here's a map...why do you ask...do you have friends in Adelaide?
