Is a Y-pipe/silencer change and performance chip worth the expense?
I bought back the '04 R1150R that I put over 104K on. I sold my '05 RT which had a Ztechnik can on it. The cat was replaceds with a Y pipe as well. I suspect it had a performance chip in the Motronic but I never took it apart to verify that. The entire bike just ran so stinking good and strong so I'm strongly thinking it had been changed. It was far heavier than my R1150 but ran so darn strong that it's got me tempted to make some modifications to my R. Any opinions?

Here's a post from Roger04RT at the BMWMOA forums from 2017
(https://forums.bmwmoa.org/threads/alter ... st-1099360)...
"I've acquired nearly every R1150 fueling solution and nothing beats lambda-shifting (AF-XIED, Lc-2 and PCIII USB w/WidebandO2). I got one of John's chips* and found that the fueling changes were quickly relearned. The spark advance changes he makes do stick around but they also shorten the dwell time, something I've pointed out to him. He also changes tables that he doesn't seem to fully understand. I finally succeeded in persuading him to test his chips with an lc-2 and GS-911 but he hasn't published any results. He did agree that he was wrong about one set of tables that he called lambda tables. There are good reviews but that's the case with most products, even ones that don't work. So I tend to follow what can be measured and look at the results".
*He's referring to John Gemi's chips from Greece.

In 2018 he also posted this...
"I got gemi chip for my r1150rt, but because the Motronic uses the O2 to adjust fueling, after a couple minutes of riding, the chip added no fuel. I made some measurements with my Wideband O2 to confirm it. Most of the fuel tables he alters are just the starting point for fueling so even changes to the “map” don’t stick except at very wide throttle angles. It also advances the timing, which the Motronic doesn’t adapt to, however on the chip he sent me, the dwell angles were adjust when the ignition angle was and the dwell times were shortened as a result.
I’ve written a lot about shifting the O2 signal, which works as explained, so I won’t add it here."
Hope that helps!

Are both your '04 RR and your '05 RT dual-plugged?
My '02 RR is single plug/cyl and runs smoothest with correct valve-lash adjustments and synced throttle bodies.
While it still does some hunting at 2500rpm, it's practically unnoticeable unless we're riding 2-up...then I guess the additional weight makes the motor compensate more for the lambda variance.
