I hope all of you in Texas (and those with families in Texas) can get through this safely. My thoughts are with you and your families. Just seeing the pictures of the evacuation make me nervous. Take care.

Hey folks...
I'm in Toronto. The threads I've read on this post are quite eerie. We don't get this kind of weather up here. It's bad enough reading about it in the papers, let alone reading it on here from folks you actually communicate with.

Be safe and I hope you all get through this with no harm or loss.

Quick report from The Woodlands (Just North of Houston). As you can see, we still have power here. Rain hasn't been too bad (Yet), a quick peak from the end of my driveway has no trees down. We should be on the downhill side around noon today.

Talked to my sis in Lufkin about 2 hours ago, just getting light out side. Lights have been on and off all night , one tree down in her yard so far wind and rain picking up.

Good news from the west side of Houston. Walked around the house this morning and saw no damage. Still windy with light rain. When we realized that we couldn't get out I made provisions for the 4 of us to sleep in the master closet for the most protection. Turns out we all slept in our own beds. We never lost power either! The Houston area was very fortunate to get off with just a glancing blow. Even Galveston survived with only minor damage. I hope this storm doesn't stall out and flood our friends in NE Texas.

Now it will be interesting to see how we get everyone back into the city!

Jamais here, with one tree down and some broken tree limbs. Everyone else in the neighborhood that I know didn't get any damage. But we don't have any electrical power or normal telephone service. So far we have water and cell phones available. No electrical power and today's heat index is forecasted for the 100s. It could be days before power is restored. Fortunately, my son's place still has power and air so we can sleep there.

I'd say we are very, very lucky.

My sister reports from Lufkin that trees and debris are every where, their house is one of the few with electricity, all underground utilities in Crown Colony. All stores are closed and there is no gasoline available. Intresting perspective, as city dwellers, they have no chainsaws, no electricity back up no fuel back up, etc and they are well prepared in relation to the rest of their town.

Extra! Extra! The house has electricity and phones again. Back in the saddle again! I've got to cut up that downed magnolia but I can get cool inside when I need to!

Dean0, We've got underground utilities here too, but anytime there's a squall line with lots of lightning or wind, we'll lose power.

Interestingly, despite the ferocity of the storm, I never once heard thunder nor did I see lightning.

Thanks guys for your thoughts.

'Survived' the wind- a little over 30 knots here -just enough to make a mess in the yard, but my power went out 1.30am Saturday - and only came back on today this morning. One of 5 houses that were out in the area - transformer blew - everyone around us had power. Took a cord accross the street to keep the coolers working.

Last night it was 97 in the house. We get spoiled with the AC!

Feel for those who have been away from home and are now only returning to who knows what?

Most interesting is what you get to know about your neighbors! Some of the ordinarily polite smily faces hide really nasty insides. You also get to see the talkers and the doers! Some surprise you with their goodness (and how few and far those are!).

So glad this is working out for you Texans. If I'd been away from home for the better part of a week, I'd approach the fridge like it was a Hazmat site...

So, you guys still doing the Big Bend?

Planning on going to Big Bend still? - absolutely! Cant let a little 'Rita' 'wear the pants' now can we without consulting us?

Have not heard from Dallarna for a while - he was being point person on this.

Give it a week or so and then we will see who is still interested. I am going anyway.
