Rear Suspension Clicking Noise

I have 42,000 miles on my 2003 RR. I am now getting a click click noise when my rear suspension is compressed and released. I don't know if it is the shock or one of the pivots in the drive shaft. The shock is original and I do have a new shock ready to put on when I have the time. Anyone have any experience with the click click noise from the rear when compressed and released? There is no other unusual noise when the engine is running, in or out of gear. I can create the noise just by pushing down on the rear and releasing it. I haven't been able to isolate the noise yet. I am sure I will be chastised for running the original shocks so long, but have you priced new ones??

odd - my first guess would be to check nothing is fouling either the shock or the swingarm as they move.

Then maybe see if its a bearing??

Not that it will help you now, but I bought new (taken off bike before it left the dealer) shocks, front and rear, for $125.00. I went to e-bay for them. And to think, I was prepared to go all the way to $150.00.

As to the sound, not a clue. How about the old trick of using a long screwdriver with a wooden handle? You do the pressing and have someone else use the screwdriver as a stethoscope. The wooden handle goes into your ear, not the other way around.
