My Clymer repair book is calling for 97in lbs torque for the oil filter on my o4 r1150r. Can anyone tell me if this correct please. Thanks in adv.

Hand tighten until gasket seats then quarter turn, no leaks no drips, no errors.

I did mine to just shy of 8 FT-LB which is 97 in-lb. First time I ever torqued an oil filter. Seemed about right. The filter just did not seem to ever tighten and it was scary using a long wrench to do this low of a torque (the only one I had that goes this low, and it is the beam type. My normal wrench is a click type). Since a value is given, I decided to use it. I prefer to use a torque wrench on all fasteners if possible. No leaks and no appearent issues.

Thanks for the replies. Thats how i do my autos Jamming and it does work for me also but had the torque wrench and the book gave a number that sounded high so thought i'd ask. Your right Packrat seems like alot of wrench for a small job but with the light setting it worked fine,with no leaks -Thanks again.

My Haynes said something like 11 nt/m, IIRC.
The bottom line is I torqued it to the correct value, whatever it is, when I did my first change last month, and noticed that the filter spun just about 1 full turn after the gasket contacted the engine case.
So, that's what I'm doing from now on...~1 full turn.
Not going to bother to check the torque....

Not many home DIY wil have a suitable torque wrench, turn it seat the seal then 1/4 turn is ample.
