How long can I leave it on the sidestand?

I know you're not supposed to lean the bike over on the sidestand since the oil then collects on the left side.
Overnight I put it up on the centerstand.
I'm seeing a guy at work (8 hour day or more) park his 1200 on the sidestand during the day and everything seems fine.
Wondering if it does any harm to the 1150r to leave it on the sidestand for the 8 hour workday? (I know it's only a few extra seconds each way but every second adds up)

I used to leave mine on the side stand at work, but every once in a while I'd notice a puff of blue smoke when it fired up, which I guess was the oil that had collected in the left cylinder burning off. But since it didn't happen all the time, I figured it must depend either on where the piston stops in the cylinder or where the ring split ends up. It was uncommon and I figured if you flog it once in a while to remove that carbon from the piston and head, it shouldn't be a problem, and it hasn't been.

The few extra seconds (often times I have my hands full as well) to put the bike on the centerstand and take it off the centerstand

OK, that shouldn't matter. I'm sure you can leave the bike on the side stand for a few minutes before an appreciable amount of oil seeps past the rings.
And it bears repeating that the bike has to go on the side stand for a couple minutes after it's thoroughly warm so the oil in the coolers can dribble down into the sump to get an accurate oil level in the site glass.

These engines are more robust than most and will take a licking and keep on ticking. Ride and enjoy!

If BMW thought there was a problem leaving the R on a side stand they would not have put one on the bike. I've put 140,000 miles between 2 R's and it has spent the majority of that time parked on it's side stand. Sure occasionally the bike will puff a bit of blue smoke but even that's rare. The oil seeps in depending on the position of the valves when it's shut off. "They all do that".

Don't give it a second thought. I never have......90,000 miles later and it runs like a bat out of hell. Ride it.

mine is on the sidestand for most of its life. the only time its on the center is to work on it, or those times I want to jam as much gas in it as I can. Or for storage.

Ive seen the smoke puff maybe 4 times, it is of no concern to me.
