Gear lever all OK? This came to me after putting the GS pegs on my Rockster and getting a far more positive gear change. Harley's are notorious for bad shifting if there's any play in the levers and ball joints. This is why pre loading the gear lever makes such a differance but you can only compensate for wear so much.

Ok , thanks for that heads up. Just dismantled and greased the ball joints and checked everything else for tightness. No probs evident. I removed the starter cover for the first time as part of the investigation. Gave a spray of anti corrosion wax while I was in there.

Re: Gear Box Oil Grade for Hot Weather
My gear shift is as clonky as ever on down shifts- so the heavier grade synthetic was not a cure. I realise that sometimes I shift gear before I blip the throttle. My brain fade. OK generally at higher speeds ,when I have the time to think about the sequence, but if I am rolling up to a stop light several noisy changes may be needed with the clutch pulled in.
So back to the Comma 75/90 next oil change. I've got enough left in the can.

Out for the first time this year and brrr in the Peak District. The gearbox shift is still slightly better iirc with the synthetic oil when I get the blips right.
