What do you mean by high speed? Exceeding the local speed limit or going flat out everywhere?
someone resurrected an old thread.
any highway speed. 65+
I did some testing. With and without the fly screen. very clean, little buffeting with no screen, but tiring. Then refittied screen used cruise control and strategic hand placement to see if/where I could make any differences... it appears that a touring screen, or ant tall screen in the same position as the sport screen would work for me.
for now, the earplugs, or earbuds sometimes is enough for me.

Not the local bikers idea of highway speeds! They like 130mph plus on our picturesque rural roads until they meet a sticky end. Bikers are not very laid back in the UK. Unless you ride a H****y at 50 mph.
Me, I like the small BMW sport screen to take the pressure of my chest and earplugs to mute the noise levels as a compromise. The airflow hits me at the top of the visor and is not perceptibly turbulent. I'm 6' 1". My larger MRA screen introduced more noise -even with the adjustable lip facility- and the flow was definitely turbulent .
The three piece hard luggage also increases the noise levels but I like it as a defence and protection against minor bumps.
I once rode 330 miles on a naked R80/7 and the strain was exhausting.

well, on this last ride into Arkansas, there was a stretch where we had to hurry to get back to my friends house, so I could leave for home in the morning(and beat some rain)... we probably averaged close to 100mph over a 130 mile ride endless slab interstate.
It was annoying, but.. really, with earplugs, I'm fine to keep going.
Its getting warm out again. think Ill ride sans-shield for a bit... see If I like it more...

By far the best noise reduction I've had is with no screen, with earplugs, closed full face helmet, and a heavy duty balaclava (winter riding). My sense is that a fair amount of the noise is from wind rushing across and up into the helmet around the neck. Thisis relieved by shrugging shoulders up or wearing a balaclava with a thick material that "seals" the space between the lower rim of helmet padding and the skin.
This past weekend I did some riding and experimented with stuffing a small sock into that space, one on each side. Noticeable reduction. The most effective spot was in the space just behind where the strap comes out the bottom of the helmet. There is a small space there. I intend to try some small pads or foam inserts to see if I can get rid of that low pitch wind sound.

Things will be nice and quiet after you slowly pass out from oxygen starvation.
Good elimination process though.
Just bought some orange ear plugs like little Xmas trees. They sure are quiet around the house. Going to try them tomorrow for real on our club run to Snowdonia and Porthmadog (Welsh Wales).
Will let you know the results.
Well, just beat the rain home after a 320 mile circuit of Snowdonia. The earplugs made it much quieter- albeit they were a bit uncomfortable and some pain in my left ear. May try a different brand or chop the end off.
Cee Baileys in California make a 22" high windshield, about 2.5 inches taller than stock. The wind goes over the helmet, this may help depending on your height.
I'm in the process of "fitting" a new-to-me 04 1150R for touring, mainly in the western U.S.. Have ridden numerous fully faired bikes, bikes with Vetters, had a couple of R1100RSes,and have rigged several other bikes for highway mileage use. Am going with a Parabellum touring shield for this bike, it comes with (evidently) high quality custom fit brackets; I'll need the tall. The stock BMW touring shield that came on the bike dumped the whole load of air on my upper chest and head (I'm about 6'3") and just doesn't work for me. Parabellum's reputation and website definitely bear checking out; I'm looking forward to trying the product. As far as the "get an RT" group, there are a number of valid reasons for customizing a motorcycle to go long distances; fun is a big part of it for me.
I have the BMW tall touring screen. Buffeting and wind noise were awful until I added the MRA x-creen. Found the sweet spot for me, which is --unusual behind the windscreen tilted towards me, reducing turbulence, buffeting and noise. 75-78 mph no problem with buffeting
