I'm a new user on this forum, did some searching but did not come up with any leads, if this is a repost I apologize. A couple weeks ago I was riding my 03 R1150R(20k miles), and it hiccupped once while accelerating and then the engine stalled, trailered it home, after sitting in the garage for a couple hours it fired up again, ran for 15 minutes, engine quit running and hasn't run since. I do have a mechanical background (master auto tech), so this is really stumping and frustrating me. Things I have checked:
Spark, getting good spark to both plugs, also replaced both spark plugs
Fuel, fuel pump runs good, plenty of volume/pressure going to injectors, completely drained gas tank and replaced gas, no signs of water or dirt in gas
Removed both fuel injectors and they are spraying a good pattern
Compression, both cylinders have good even compression
Wiggled wiring, removed tank, wiggled more wiring, brand new battery, engine cranks over good, the darn thing just won't start
Ok heres the strange part, I can spray starting fluid in the airbox and the engine will start and run for a few seconds
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. thanks James

You've got fuel and spark, only thing remaining is air. Is your air filter clean and with no major restrictions?
That's curious. I guess no issues with any of the safety switches--side stand, gear etc?

Cyclerob will maybe chime in here with a professional assessment, but it sounds like a TPS issue. Has the Throttle Position Sensor been fiddled with?

Kill switch circuit wiring
Load relief relay?
Hall sensor?
Guessing you tested injectors on bench? Confirmed operation in bike?
Know anyone with GS911 in your area?

Re: Please help, engine cranks but won't start-03 R1150R
Have tried bike on centerstand, kickstand up/down and everyway I can figure, it does show neutral gear indicator, I read there was issues with the hall sensors and wiring being too tight because of zipties, but it seems all the ones I came across that had issues with wiring or hall sensor either didnt have fuel or spark, I have both fuel and spark, I have no way of checking the injectors other than pulling them out and cranking the engine over, they do appear to be spraying pretty good, I don't have another bike to compare it to but both sides are about the same. Tps has not been messed with at all that I can tell.

2 days ago, when I first read this post, his first and only one
I thought that it had to be a prank or a gag. It's got good spark, normal fuel, good compression and normal cranking power. It runs a few seconds on a starting fluid spray, telling us there is either a fuel delivery problem or a very weak spark. Given those traits it has to an intermittent Hall sensor, failing Motronic computer or connection, or a fuzzy neutral/sidestand switch/connector. Since the engine flamed out while riding it suggests a temperature sensitive component failure. Because it is an 11 year old bike, my bet is that it will only be a broken wire in 1 of the 2 front main wire harness loops under the headlight. On that one, just turning the steering can make it work . . . or fail.
To confirm a solid ignition system, the spark check test should be performed again . . . in the dark, with an extra sparkplug's base touching a cylinerhead bolt head. We need the starter loaded by both cylinder's cranking compression forces to tax the ignition circuit. In that darkness you should easily see a blue or blue/white spark. Orange is weak.
