I know—a lot of you guys saw this title and just shook your heads. "That's not what this bike is designed for" etc.
Yesterday, I headed over to the Superbike Coach course on getting your knee down, and took my R1200R. I'm happy (and perhaps a bit crazy) to report that it's possible for mere mortals to drag knee on this bike—but you have to hang way off to drag knee without dragging cylinder too.
Lots of fun and Coach Can is great. Doing the wheelie course today. I loft the front pretty frequently when riding briskly but we'll see how I do busting big wheelies on my R.
Honestly, I loft the front end out of corners pretty frequently, but had never even bothered to try power wheelies in a straight line. Bike wheelies pretty well.
I'm continually impressed with how versatile this bike is. I easily do 500+ mile days and commute year round on it, and now wheelies and knee-dragging. It wasn't easy to herd it around the track but it's doable.
My bike has lofted the front wheel in first, second and third. ASC kicks in and sets it back down. I won't turn the ASC off it has more power than I think.
Drag a knee? Me? never. Only the pegs. It sure does it with confidence.

Just to be clear, I'm not planning to drag knee or bust big wheelies (which requires turning ASC off) on the street on my R. I took both of these courses for an article I'm writing.
I used to drag the pegs quite a bit when I first got the bike. I've gotten better at turning this bike without leaning it over so far, and replaced the pegs with something grippier and more clearance so they don't touch down as easily. I got some good laughs and betting activity at the track, though, on the topic of whether the cylinders or my knee would drag first. It was my knee, but I was hanging off like a monkey—WAY more than I would on the street.

You weren't riding in New York the other day, huh?
Hah! No. See above about not doing this kind of thing on the street. I have a very strong position on riding like an asshat on public roads: don't do it. I recognize that we motorcyclists as a group suffer the consequences of the actions of a relatively small group—whether it be crazy-loud pipes, too-fast lane splitting, stunting on the freeway, etc.
Hats down for you guys!!
Long time ago(1975)driving an MZ250TS smashed exhaust muffler driving so fast in curves.I was 18 years old.Today 55 would not prefer such thinks.Bones healing a lot slower in this age.No lak in self confidience,I grow up on diferet bikes. Most importantly I love curvy roads, like here in Northumberland county,in Ontario,CA.

Where is that protection that I needed?
Air can hurt you too
It is possible, lifting up the front wheel in 3rd.gear at least handle bar becomes "easy" meaning loosing contact with ashfalt.I did it once, forgatting whot kinde of bike sitting on.Knee draging?Well....I am draging my knees for my wife, after 1/4 of a century marrieg.Still in love with her+her=my wife+R12R.
