Good day, noo guy here, have had many bikes, been looking for a more comfortable daily, found an 04 r1150rt with 16k, very clean....am I over thinking the clutch spline problem, been reading til my head pops......how about linked brakes? Really want reliability, love the bike otherwise, probly work out a resonable price.....thanks
Re: 04 rt
At 16k it's barely run in.
If you go ahead with it, and in the absence of detailed written service records, allow some additional money or time (if you do it yourself) to change all the fluids - engine, transmission, final drive oils, clutch and brake fluids (both control and wheel circuits). Oil filter & air filter as well. Consider the expense an investment.
Then you're good to go.
Others will disagree but I came to love the servo/ABS brakes.
You'll get used to them being touchy at low speeds - eg U-turns in carparks. A bit of finesse (eg a light squeeze with one finger) goes a long way!

Thanks Ian.....i like the bike, a little gun shy about the brakes, had a k12rs for two weeks at 10k the abs quit...$2000+ to repair the module...rode without but was hard to sell that way....Different brake set up, I know...
I always do a complete service when I get a new ride.....only way to know for sure....
I know the mileage is low on this bike but I also know sittting around not ridden is not good.....abs wise.....
The clutch spline issue is a big one too, I don't get BMW having those kind of problems.....
gonna look at a r1100rsl later this week so we'll see.......
Thanks

Re: 04 rt
I've heard that the clutch spline problem is a small number overall. Also you either have a good one or not and if you have the problem it shows up early mileage wise. This is one of those things that I'm not to worried about.

Re: 04 rt
On another post I just mentioned buying a brand new '04 R1150rt back in 2004. It has to be the best bike of the 15 or so I have ever owned. I rode it for 2 years, put 60,000 miles on it, and never had a squeak of a problem. Sadly, I sold it. Needed the money for a... well, that is best not spoken of. I recently bought an identical '04 for $6,900 on Craigslist (except for the color), and I am reminded what a fantastic bike it is. With 22,000 miles, it isn't really broken in yet. Forget what you hear about final drive failures or anything else... and just ride. Every life and every bike is different, and the BMW is probably 99% foolproof. Just wish women were that way. I am 0 for 2 with them... Off to Mexico now... on the bike, with women in mind. Lee
