Ambient light telltale illumines

Post by Dr. Strangelove »

with ref to pag 18 of the owner's manual
""6 Ambient-light brightness
sensor (for adapting the
brightness of the instrument
lighting)
with anti-theft alarmOE
Anti-theft alarm telltale light
(see the instructions for use"

I was riding through a rainstorm, and the ambient light was waxing and waning, the right side of it only. I noticed this light going on and staying on temporarily, like 15-30 seconds or so, ie not a flash on/off. It seemed to be speed sensitive, as when I went faster it would go on, slow down and off, but not repeatedly so, not 100%. Situation lasted maybe 5 minutes??? then back to "normal" operation.
Is this just telling me that the dash lights are now going on, or something else? Is it any kind of a warning other than ambient light is decreasing?

I did not notice "dWA" on the display, but rather the standard readout. If it, the dWA, only comes on momentarily I could have missed it as the conditions were horrible.
As the rain lessened the light went out, and did not reappear.

Riding through a rainstorm and paying an inordinate amount of time looking at lights on the instruments. Shame on you John!!

Never paid too much attention to the instrument lights other than they are on at night. Thanks for bringing up something new to wonder/complain and generally kibitz about, the fuel strip thing is getting kind of old.

Harry, I hope all riders actually quickly glance at the speedometer on occasion, and sometimes the display even in a rainstorm. It's important to do that. And if something there flashes red, even in a rainstorm, I hope they have a wide enough field of vision that it catches their eye and it causes them to, at some level, wonder what that could mean?
So, I came here to post the question that remains unanswered.

Maybe you're being facetious and I have lost my sense of humor and if so I apologize sincerely.

FYI since you brought it up, my third fuel strip continues to perform well. I found it useful on my trip to Yosemite, K Falls and Medford, Oregon. Had snow and hail and WIND and dust storms, but no real rain until I was between Baton Rouge and NO and then it poured. Quite a ride. Too much weather for Lolo, Hell's Canyon and the Missouri Breaks so that will have to wait. If my abysmal riding techniques don't kill me, ;) , before next spring, thinking Jefferson Highway to Winnepeg and then south to the Breaks. Met up with some sporttouring and advrider guys along the way. Pretty cool actually.

take care,
John

I thought we were talking about instrument illumination not indicator lamps. And your right about being facetious. Guess we'll have to wait to see how many others are having this problem.
