Got an almost new, pristine 2008 R1200R (5 kmiles). Everything is dandy exept the seat doesn't snap on correctly, it is banking to one side and it is a payne to install each time. Anybody else have this problem?
Thanks ror any advice!

Is the tool roll strapped in straight? There are some rubber bumpers on the bike that can be rotated to adjust the seat height slightly. You would usually just use these to adjust the height until the seat latch is working just right.
Thanks for the reply. First, the tool kit isn't an issue, cause it isn't in place. Second, the seat locking mechanism works ok, the problem is near the tank, The two "U" shaped rods that connect with the seat are not the same height. One is lower and is leaning towards the center of the bike, the other is higher and more vertical. I dont know if one of them was bent by the previous owner, or if it was installed this way at the factory.. What this does is the seat edge on one side is 1/2" away from the tank, and there is a 1" gap under the seat on the same side.. On the other side the seat is resting on the frame. I dont know which is the good way, the gaping way or the "resting on the frame" way...

Putting the seat on is a pain under the best of circumstances. Getting those two pins to line up with their holes requires practice.
But it sounds like someone may have ridden the bike with the seat not properly installed and bent the pin. Can you get to compare your bike with someone else's?

Take a small tube and bent them back. They should match each other. It will take some time and maybe some help. If you have no tube, use about a 10mm socket and extension. Slide the socket over the hook and adjust it.
zblip2 - I'll borrow Dons mantra of "It would help if you put your location in your profile". You might be living right around the corner from a fellow R1200R owner, and a quick look under his seat could solve your problem.

My guess is the u-pin got bent cause someone rode the bike with the seat not clipped in coorectley. I dont think BMW would let a bike out the factory with a seat leaning to one side. But we never know, after all, nobody would have predicted chernobil but still it happens

Maybe someone from the Montreal area will answer. i'll be going thru there in late August with another R1200R rider but I imagine you'll have it sorted out by then.
I tried taking some pictures -- but their just about useless.

Thanks but how do you know it's not the right one that should be bent to match the left one? Maybe a clue to this is the lowest one should normally me the faulty one cause it is improbable ta a U-Pin would be bent upwards... Still, I will verify this with a BMW mwchanic

It's hard to tell much from those pictures, but it looks like he may have a non standard battery that's installed backwards, and the wires and terminal cover are in the way of the seat.

Hey there, thanks for the help, but just so I'm not mistaking:
Looks to me like the battery is in the right position, and the photos (correct me if I'm wrong) ar not from the motorcycle having trouble with its seat (Mine) but mogu83's bike as he was trying, I guess to show me what it should look like under the seat...

Sorry my last post was wrong. Your battery is installed the right way. I had to check my bike and mine is oriented the same. I'm still not sure that the red terminal cover is not getting in the way on yours though.
