Service interval confusion.

Post by 2wheels »

I do comparatively few miles each year so typically I might take bike for annual service at perhaps 4000mls. The dealer will then say it needs a service again when it reaches 6000mls! This seems illogical and I would expect to have it serviced one year later or when it has done a further 6000mls.

Can anyone throw some light on this conundrum? Is the dealer trying it on?

Brian .... I think my dealer said ...service every 6k or once a year because the fluids age and can change values. I think...
And so i agree with you... 6k or yearly.
Silver is the fastest color.....

I assume you have the bike serviced at the 4000 mile mark because you are storing it. Have the bike serviced at the normal 6000 mile interval and then if you are concerned about the oil/filter needing to be changed sooner, then have just that changed. Things like valves, throttle body sync and even other fluids will wait until the normal service interval comes due. The dealer is being self serving by saying the bike needs another full service after only 2000 miles; it is a money maker for him. Remember there are some services that are time based rather than mileage based. Brake fluid is a good example; it is supposed to be changed every two years. I would have that done as well before storage if it were near to being required. Learn to do some of the simple tasks yourself, such as oil/filter. Will save you money and is fun to boot.

Just tell the buffoon dealer to do the yearly & 6k miles service at the same time since he's obviously not smart enough to figure it out for himself.
