Hi everyone!

I'm owned by a 2000 R1100R. We've been together for seven years now. I rode quads as a kid because I wasn't allowed to have a dirtbike, so when I was 29 I FINALLY got my endorsement and became whole!

I call her "Frau". This is my second bike, as it followed an 84 Kaw LTD 250.

I have some trouble with slow speeds in parking lots, as you can see from the terrible scratches on the cylinder head covers.

I've been through two other bikes thinking I must not be able to handle the beemer if I kept dropping it...then I remembered to pick up my head. No more problems!
However, I still have the XT225 and DR650, and it's like having my spleen removed to consider selling a motorcycle!

nice and neat looking bike. I don't know of any oilhead rider who has not at least once in his life dropped the bike on the right or left side ... Me included!

Never mind. If you feel embarrassed by the scratches get the polished/filled and the covers painted or powdercoated. Thats what I did.

One great thing about my Roadster, with this particular paint scheme, is that I definitely haven't encountered anyone on my bike's doppleganger! I read a thread called "Why BMW?" and that was one poster's reason....they are unique.

Well...meet someone who has your bike's doppleganger! I too have a 2000 R1100R with the "763" paint scheme. I've got the plastic cylinder guards and a few other nice add-ons that came with it, but I'm jealous of the luggage rack. Welcome to the forum!

Yeah man, that luggage rack is rare like the blue mauritius. It no longer exists and no second hand sales on ebay or anywhere else.

I'll be darned! Good thing we're on opposite sides of the Midwest...we can maintain the illusion that our bikes are one of a kind.

had no idea they were so rare. I've gathered from my forum lurking that the aftermarket support has either dried up or never existed, and bmw doesn't pick up that slack either.
On a trip last weekend someone slashed my seat open with a razor blade. Both seats, actually. My friend saw it first when she went out to the bike, and had to break it to me. Probably just ass---- kids. Progressive paid me within a few days, so I started shopping for a used seat so I can use the balance of the pay out for new cylinder head covers or something. Haven't found a seat yet...I thought it would be easy since lots of people replace them with customs. Then it cane to me: I wonder if they send in their pans to have the seat built? That would be one explanation for my trouble locating one.

Sorry...long-winded today. Thanks for pointing out my good fortune, as the racks (and AWESOME pipe) came with the bike.

Sitting in a Panera on a ride break, so there's nuthin' to do but post! Lucky you! Oops, "doppel-ganger" is the correct spelling...thought I had that wrong.

I was enrolled for a Motorcycle Ohio Basic 2 course today, but got my lines crossed with someone and didn't realize how far away it was...left too late and missed it. So now I'm practically on the shore of Lake Erie and poring over Google maps...oh, where shall I go? The day is not lost!

ICBM guy: I'm going to look up some of the paint schemes. I've had a lot of compliments on "ours", including a gas station conversation with a guy who insisted that it was the only throwback paint bmw did. I told him to Google the 75thonly anniversary scheme. Talk about throwback...and gorgeous!

Oliver, that was a classy ride. I like the windscreen/cowl and wheels! Nice, deep blue.

Ben,

most people who get their seat modified send in their original seats and they get new foam/cover. If somebody cut your seat open your best bet would be to go to some upholstery shop and get them to replace the cover. Not a big deal. Finding new/used seats would certainly be the bigger problem.

Yes, my R1100R was somewhat special. But dont forget - big $$$ went into that bike. Now I have a new toy/playground - the R1200S ...

Ok, that saves me a lot of time looking. I'll start calling around to see who does that kind of upholstery work in my area.

Welcome Bugle, I see you are being helped just like I have been the past couple of months nice bike, too bad about the seat but as Oliver has mentioned a local shop can fix you up. I ride a 1997 R850R I picked up a few weeks ago and have been tweeking, just put on a set of hand guards yesterday that Clem told me about and Robcycle & I mounted two front tires on our bikes last week at a local technical college , they let us use the facilities and Rob showed me how to use the equiptment.
Getting back to Olivers nice ride , would like my bike to look that good but not sure if I could ride it daily if it was that nice, so I am going for a well maintained, fair looking bike that I ride . I rode the bike up to Hiawassee Ga. this weekend where we keep a camper and it handled well with the new tire and had ok power , not blazing but not bad.
As I said welcome aboard and enjoy the site.

When the photos of my R1100R were taken the bike was almost 13 years old and had about 75 000 kms on the clock. The bike looked like new which was a matter of keeping her well! Cleaning, greasing, inspection every year, garage storage under cover. Thats the whole secret.
