Changing our the rear with a new PR3 was the tire change from hell.

Per your comments/questions about the Z8s and Z6s, I have not used them before. Going by what others have posted about them, it seems that they are similar to the PRs. Some people get great mileage/tread wear out of Zs and others out of the PRs. Some people report poor mileage/tread wear from the Zs and others from the PRs. The PRs do seem to be reviewed as excellent in wet weather. The Zs do well, too, but perhaps not as well as the PRs.

I had recently read about the Continentals that mimic dual-compound using a single-compound. The theory is that it should wear longer than actual dual-compound tires.

So far, I am quite happy with the PR3s, but time will tell how well they hold up and perform for me.

Actually it was on July 3rd that I did the heavy lifting. This morning I just put the tire out in the sun and tried one last time.
and succeeded on the second try! Glory, Glory, Hallelujah!
Then family arrived and we did the BBQ and swimming thing...and now they're gone.

As I started to read about the tricks to seat the bead, it seemed that preservation of life became more and more important, and more and more emphasized. I thought back to those people I had seen injured replacing a tire. Serious injuries.
And I don't know if Part A or Part B of Medicare covers idiocy.

Finally pulled the plug on the set of PR3s fitted to the 1150.



The one on the left has done 18000 km and has 1.5 mm of tread remaining. The photo is more flattering than the reality.
On the right is a new PR3 with 7 mm of tread. Mounted new front and back today.
I'll spare you the story but I bought the back tyre at one dealer and had it mounted at another. Cost A$50 to have it mounted and for that price they took a divot out of my rim. I let them know that if they are going to charge A$50 they really need to do a better than that.

Now if you don't mind I'm off to enjoy my new tyres. Starting on Friday, I've got a 1600 km trip planned.

You mean you still paid them A$50?? For that sort of money I would expect them to have done a professional job taking all due care.

I've got a set of PR3's on my '04 R1150R with about 1,500 miles on them. I am very pleased with these tires...great performance/confidence in corners and sounds like they will last too! I would recommend them.

Changing the tires ,setting the bead..ahhh. I learned a trick in OZ...either (cold start gas) and a bic..works every time.

I'd a Z6 fitted to the rear recently. Never seen anyone struggle so much to fit a tyre. They really earned that £10.
Not impressed by the high cost or fast wear of the Bridgestone Battlax BT021 (4000 miles front and 5000 miles rear)- so going for the much cheaper Z6 (in UK anyway- £90 v £135).

Ordered a Z6 for the front as well. Surprisingly the price differential for that size is much less than for the rear.
