So far I have ordered my new r12 in early feb 2012.
This far I've had no news from the dealer that I havent actually had to chase up my self. The original guy at the dealers has left and nobody informed me of that. Nobody has advised me in in way what the progress with the bike is if any and frankly with no definite news on the horizon as to where the bike is or why the delay. At the earliest it might be the end of June,if I'm luckly. No it's to customized in any way just an off the rack bike and frankly at this point I'm just sick of the whole process.
It's a new bike, I want to be enthusiastic and enjoy the whole experience but at this point I feel like they can just stick their bike up their own tailpipe.

Normally the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I would begin to call them on a regular basis to get the status, etc. I would think that it should not take this long. Also, make sure that you actually placed the order due to the original salesman having left. I live in Salt Lake City and am glad to help in anyway possible. BTW, what did you order?
I would be bugging the crap out of the dealer DAILY, to the general manager, then BMWNA, etc.... Tell them to find you the same bike that's already in-country at a different dealer! Talk to someone who can get you answers, no info in unacceptable IMO.
Care to share what dealer you're dealing with and where you're at?
Good luck, all I can really say is the 12R is worth the wait as hard as that may be.
BMW builds bikes in batches. They usually do two batches of R12R's per year. There can be some delay getting a bike if you order it right after a batch is sold out.
BMW dealers in the US have the ability to log into BMW-Motorrads computer and see exactly where any new bike is available in the US, in other words - if your dealer doesn't have one - they should be able to find one at another dealer. Dealer bike trades are done all the time, all it takes is for you to motivate your dealer.
I don't want to slam you - but complaining here will do absolutely NO good. Complaining at the dealership MAY do some good.. expecially if you jump over the sales-staff and ask for the owner or general manager. Explain what you told us - without rancor - and see what they can do for you. Sometimes if the higher management gets involved they will get you a bike quickly (the sale money DOES come out of their pocket so they're motivated), and sometimes they'll toss some goodies in with the deal to make up for your frustation.
My usual rule is - buy when the bike is there and you can ride it home. In some parts of the US there are multiple dealerships within a days ride - so you have options on where you buy it. If that's the case where you are - it might be worth checking with any dealerships within a reasonable distance to see if they have what you want in stock.
FWIW - a good motorcycle salesman is a rarity. A good one follows up, keeps the customer informed, goes to bat for the customer with the owner or BMW-Motorrad when needed. If you find a good salesman - let other people know - the salesman will appreciate it - and the people you tell will appreciate it. Win-Win. And if you're stuck with a turkey salesman, do not hesitate to ask for your deposit back and go shopping elsewhere. Life is too short to put up with idiots and/or poor service.

2012 R1200R - I love this bike!
I know its tough waitng but it will be worth it. I ordered mine in mid Dec 2011 and it arrived at my dealer in mid March 2012. I took delivery on March 31st 2012. I had them install several accessories for me and order me two BMW riding suits.
I have now just crossed 2K miles and love this bike the more I ride it. I've even made going to work fun as I try to ride to work at least half the week
Hang in there, it will be worth it.

Hi guys, yeah I know complaining here won't do any good I was just venting I guess.
I've emailed them and rung them and even emailed BMW Germany just to let them know
how crappy I think the service has been.
Initially when I ordered the bike ( white/grey with panniers, the slightly ambiguous police look is intentional ) they said late April possibly May, of course now after my whinning they are telling me last week of June. Primarily I'm annoyed that there's no communication from the dealers about what's happening. A bike is a reasonable sized purchase and when you pull the trigger on one it's because your enthusiastic and you want the whole process to go smoothly and have a good relationship with the dealer. This kind of B/S sours the whole thing and gets it off to a bad start.
As for other dealers, Singapore is a small place and there is only 1 BMW dealer. So with any luck another month, anyway I'm still looking,forward to getting it but not dealing with the dealer.
I joined up here pretty much just after I ordered it and I guess I was just writing to see if mine was the worst dealer experience so far.

That explains a lot, I believe I've heard of situations like this before in Singapore with the 1 dealer.... no competition doesn't promote better service.
A little investment? I have an idea how much more you pay for vehicles there with the taxes, it's shocking to most Americans really.
Hang in there, once you get the bike your frustration should melt right away. Plus the R1200R is generally a very reliable bike so you should't need to have much interaction with your dealer, especially if you can do the basic maintenance yourself.
I´d say that any more than 2 weeks delay would make me pretty pissed off and would warrant some kind of compensation. Why not suggest that they ought to give you a REALLY good price on some gear. FYI, I´ve managed about 65% off on retail price on a pair of Streetguard 2 pants in a slightly similar situation, and dealer said he still didn't loose money on them.

From placing a deposit to getting my hands on my bike, it took six months. I was told all sorts from the dealer, but the truth is, they had very little influence on the shipping decisions made by BMW Germany. My bike was due early March 2011, then late March, then April/May, due to the colour I selected not being shipped in the first lot of bikes to Oz. Then finally the end of May. The only way the dealer could placate my impatience was to take order screen dumps from the BMW system, showing status updates, which calmed me somewhat. I even rang BMW Oz with little avail. To their credit, I did find my dealer was truthful in trying to keep me fully informed of the siutation or lack of information eminating from Germany. Hang in there, if you have a contract for the bike, it will come!
