License Plate Bulb (US Model)

On a pretrip inspection I noticed my license plate bulb was out. Strangely the computer didn't notice.
My options are to tear the housing apart or to try to pull the light socket out from the back of the unit.
Before I cause myself a lot of time (or Money) has anyone replaced this bulb (US Model).
The maintence CD shows nothing and I did search for info.

I have not replaced it but I have become acquainted with the rear end of the R12R as a result of installing the Wunderlich rear fender eliminator. That required removing it from the housing. I need to take a look at it and refresh my memory. I'll get back to you on it.

Sander - Hope I got you before you went to the garage. I put the bike on the lift and with some bright light on the unit and my head stuffed under the fender I could tell it's a pull out type deal. Grabbed it with a needle nose gave a tug and out it came. Found a spare in my parts bin and now I'm good to go.

Their was a time when I wouldn't worry about running without a license light but those days are long past. In fact I just rewired my 71 R75/5 removing my silent running switch (IE: wire all the grounds from the lights on the back of the bike through a switch on the handlebar so you could run at night with just the headlight on -OH the good old days)

I recalled that it was a "just pull it out" arrangement but I didn't want to tell you that and have you yanking on it just in case it wasn't.
